The Pharisees Demand a Sign
The Pharisees came to Jesus and demanded a sign from heaven to test him. Jesus sighed deeply and said that this generation would never receive any sign. Then he left them and went over to the other side of the sea.
Mark 8,11-13
11The Pharisees came out and began to argue with him, demanding a sign from heaven to test him.
Καὶ ἐξῆλθον οἱ Φαρισαῖοι καὶ ἤρξαντο συζητεῖν αὐτῷ, ζητοῦντες παρʼ αὐτοῦ σημεῖον ἀπὸ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ, πειράζοντες αὐτόν.
12He sighed deeply in his spirit and said, "Why does this generation demand a sign? Truly I tell you, no sign will be given to this generation."
καὶ ἀναστενάξας τῷ πνεύματι αὐτοῦ λέγει· Τί ἡ γενεὰ αὕτη ⸂ζητεῖ σημεῖον⸃; ἀμὴν λέγω ⸀ὑμῖν, εἰ δοθήσεται τῇ γενεᾷ ταύτῃ σημεῖον.
13Then he left them, got back into the boat, and crossed to the other side.
καὶ ἀφεὶς αὐτοὺς ⸂πάλιν ἐμβὰς⸃ ἀπῆλθεν εἰς τὸ πέραν.
