The Woman with the Issue of Blood
A woman who had been bleeding for twelve years touched Jesus' cloak and was healed.
Mark 5,25-34
25Among them was a woman who had suffered from bleeding for twelve years.
καὶ ⸀γυνὴ οὖσα ἐν ῥύσει αἵματος ⸂δώδεκα ἔτη⸃
26She had endured much under many physicians and had spent all she had, yet instead of getting better she had only grown worse.
καὶ πολλὰ παθοῦσα ὑπὸ πολλῶν ἰατρῶν καὶ δαπανήσασα τὰ παρʼ αὐτῆς πάντα καὶ μηδὲν ὠφεληθεῖσα ἀλλὰ μᾶλλον εἰς τὸ χεῖρον ἐλθοῦσα,
27When she heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak,
⸀ἀκούσασα περὶ τοῦ Ἰησοῦ, ἐλθοῦσα ἐν τῷ ὄχλῳ ὄπισθεν ἥψατο τοῦ ἱματίου αὐτοῦ·
28for she said to herself, "If I just touch his clothes, I will be healed."
ἔλεγεν γὰρ ὅτι ⸂Ἐὰν ἅψωμαι κἂν τῶν ἱματίων αὐτοῦ⸃ σωθήσομαι.
29Immediately the bleeding stopped, and she felt in her body that she was cured of her affliction.
καὶ ⸀εὐθὺς ἐξηράνθη ἡ πηγὴ τοῦ αἵματος αὐτῆς, καὶ ἔγνω τῷ σώματι ὅτι ἴαται ἀπὸ τῆς μάστιγος.
30At once Jesus, aware within himself that power had gone out from him, turned around in the crowd and asked, "Who touched my clothes?"
καὶ ⸀εὐθὺς ὁ Ἰησοῦς ἐπιγνοὺς ἐν ἑαυτῷ τὴν ἐξ αὐτοῦ δύναμιν ἐξελθοῦσαν ἐπιστραφεὶς ἐν τῷ ὄχλῳ ἔλεγεν· Τίς μου ἥψατο τῶν ἱματίων;
31His disciples said to him, "You see the crowd pressing in on you, and you ask, 'Who touched me?'"
καὶ ἔλεγον αὐτῷ οἱ μαθηταὶ αὐτοῦ· Βλέπεις τὸν ὄχλον συνθλίβοντά σε, καὶ λέγεις· Τίς μου ἥψατο;
32But he kept looking around to see who had done it.
καὶ περιεβλέπετο ἰδεῖν τὴν τοῦτο ποιήσασαν.
33Then the woman, afraid and trembling, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell down before him and told him the whole truth.
ἡ δὲ γυνὴ φοβηθεῖσα καὶ τρέμουσα, εἰδυῖα ὃ γέγονεν ⸀αὐτῇ, ἦλθεν καὶ προσέπεσεν αὐτῷ καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ πᾶσαν τὴν ἀλήθειαν.
34He said to her, "Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace, and be free from your affliction."
ὁ δὲ εἶπεν αὐτῇ· ⸀Θυγάτηρ, ἡ πίστις σου σέσωκέν σε· ὕπαγε εἰς εἰρήνην, καὶ ἴσθι ὑγιὴς ἀπὸ τῆς μάστιγός σου.
Matthew 9,20-22
20Just then a woman who had suffered from bleeding for twelve years came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak,
Καὶ ἰδοὺ γυνὴ αἱμορροοῦσα δώδεκα ἔτη προσελθοῦσα ὄπισθεν ἥψατο τοῦ κρασπέδου τοῦ ἱματίου αὐτοῦ·
21for she said to herself, "If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed."
ἔλεγεν γὰρ ἐν ἑαυτῇ· Ἐὰν μόνον ἅψωμαι τοῦ ἱματίου αὐτοῦ σωθήσομαι.
22Jesus turned and saw her, and he said, "Take heart, daughter; your faith has healed you." And from that moment the woman was well.
ὁ δὲ Ἰησοῦς ⸀στραφεὶς καὶ ἰδὼν αὐτὴν εἶπεν· Θάρσει, θύγατερ· ἡ πίστις σου σέσωκέν σε. καὶ ἐσώθη ἡ γυνὴ ἀπὸ τῆς ὥρας ἐκείνης.
Luke 8,43-48
43And a woman was there who had suffered from bleeding for twelve years. She had spent all she had on physicians, yet no one could heal her.
καὶ γυνὴ οὖσα ἐν ῥύσει αἵματος ἀπὸ ἐτῶν δώδεκα, ἥτις ⸂ἰατροῖς προσαναλώσασα ὅλον τὸν βίον⸃ οὐκ ἴσχυσεν ⸀ἀπʼ οὐδενὸς θεραπευθῆναι,
44She came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak, and immediately her bleeding stopped.
προσελθοῦσα ὄπισθεν ἥψατο τοῦ κρασπέδου τοῦ ἱματίου αὐτοῦ, καὶ παραχρῆμα ἔστη ἡ ῥύσις τοῦ αἵματος αὐτῆς.
45"Who touched me?" Jesus asked. When they all denied it, Peter said, "Master, the crowds are surrounding you and pressing in on you."
καὶ εἶπεν ὁ Ἰησοῦς· Τίς ὁ ἁψάμενός μου; ἀρνουμένων δὲ πάντων εἶπεν ὁ ⸀Πέτρος· Ἐπιστάτα, οἱ ὄχλοι συνέχουσίν σε καὶ ⸀ἀποθλίβουσιν.
46But Jesus said, "Someone touched me, for I perceived that power had gone out from me."
ὁ δὲ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν· Ἥψατό μού τις, ἐγὼ γὰρ ἔγνων δύναμιν ⸀ἐξεληλυθυῖαν ἀπʼ ἐμοῦ.
47Seeing that she could not remain hidden, the woman came trembling and fell down before him. In the presence of all the people she told why she had touched him and how she had been healed at once.
ἰδοῦσα δὲ ἡ γυνὴ ὅτι οὐκ ἔλαθεν τρέμουσα ἦλθεν καὶ προσπεσοῦσα αὐτῷ διʼ ἣν αἰτίαν ἥψατο αὐτοῦ ⸀ἀπήγγειλεν ἐνώπιον παντὸς τοῦ λαοῦ καὶ ὡς ἰάθη παραχρῆμα.
48He said to her, "Daughter, your faith has saved you. Go in peace." [Footnote: Or 'your faith has made you well'; the Greek verb means both to save and to heal.]
ὁ δὲ εἶπεν αὐτῇ· ⸀Θυγάτηρ, ἡ πίστις σου σέσωκέν σε· πορεύου εἰς εἰρήνην.
Matthew 9,18-26
18While he was saying these things to them, a ruler came and knelt before him, saying, "My daughter has just died. But come and lay your hand on her, and she will live."
Ταῦτα αὐτοῦ λαλοῦντος αὐτοῖς ἰδοὺ ἄρχων εἷς ⸀ἐλθὼν προσεκύνει αὐτῷ λέγων ὅτι Ἡ θυγάτηρ μου ἄρτι ἐτελεύτησεν· ἀλλὰ ἐλθὼν ἐπίθες τὴν χεῖρά σου ἐπʼ αὐτήν, καὶ ζήσεται.
19So Jesus got up and followed him, and so did his disciples.
καὶ ἐγερθεὶς ὁ Ἰησοῦς ⸀ἠκολούθει αὐτῷ καὶ οἱ μαθηταὶ αὐτοῦ.
20Just then a woman who had suffered from bleeding for twelve years came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak,
Καὶ ἰδοὺ γυνὴ αἱμορροοῦσα δώδεκα ἔτη προσελθοῦσα ὄπισθεν ἥψατο τοῦ κρασπέδου τοῦ ἱματίου αὐτοῦ·
21for she said to herself, "If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed."
ἔλεγεν γὰρ ἐν ἑαυτῇ· Ἐὰν μόνον ἅψωμαι τοῦ ἱματίου αὐτοῦ σωθήσομαι.
22Jesus turned and saw her, and he said, "Take heart, daughter; your faith has healed you." And from that moment the woman was well.
ὁ δὲ Ἰησοῦς ⸀στραφεὶς καὶ ἰδὼν αὐτὴν εἶπεν· Θάρσει, θύγατερ· ἡ πίστις σου σέσωκέν σε. καὶ ἐσώθη ἡ γυνὴ ἀπὸ τῆς ὥρας ἐκείνης.
23When Jesus came to the leader's house and saw the flute players and the crowd making a commotion,
καὶ ἐλθὼν ὁ Ἰησοῦς εἰς τὴν οἰκίαν τοῦ ἄρχοντος καὶ ἰδὼν τοὺς αὐλητὰς καὶ τὸν ὄχλον θορυβούμενον
24he said, "Leave. The girl is not dead but asleep." And they laughed at him.
⸀ἔλεγεν· Ἀναχωρεῖτε, οὐ γὰρ ἀπέθανεν τὸ κοράσιον ἀλλὰ καθεύδει· καὶ κατεγέλων αὐτοῦ.
25But when the crowd had been put outside, he went in, took her by the hand, and the girl got up.
ὅτε δὲ ἐξεβλήθη ὁ ὄχλος, εἰσελθὼν ἐκράτησεν τῆς χειρὸς αὐτῆς, καὶ ἠγέρθη τὸ κοράσιον.
26And the news of this spread through that whole region.
καὶ ἐξῆλθεν ἡ φήμη αὕτη εἰς ὅλην τὴν γῆν ἐκείνην.
Luke 8,40-56
40When Jesus returned, the crowd welcomed him, for they had all been waiting for him.
⸂Ἐν δὲ⸃ τῷ ⸀ὑποστρέφειν τὸν Ἰησοῦν ἀπεδέξατο αὐτὸν ὁ ὄχλος, ἦσαν γὰρ πάντες προσδοκῶντες αὐτόν.
41Then a man named Jairus came—he was a ruler of the synagogue. He fell at Jesus' feet and pleaded with him to come to his house,
καὶ ἰδοὺ ἦλθεν ἀνὴρ ᾧ ὄνομα Ἰάϊρος, καὶ ⸀οὗτος ἄρχων τῆς συναγωγῆς ὑπῆρχεν, καὶ πεσὼν παρὰ τοὺς πόδας ⸀τοῦ Ἰησοῦ παρεκάλει αὐτὸν εἰσελθεῖν εἰς τὸν οἶκον αὐτοῦ,
42because his only daughter, about twelve years old, was dying. As Jesus went, the crowds pressed in around him.
ὅτι θυγάτηρ μονογενὴς ἦν αὐτῷ ὡς ἐτῶν δώδεκα καὶ αὐτὴ ἀπέθνῃσκεν. Ἐν δὲ τῷ ὑπάγειν αὐτὸν οἱ ὄχλοι συνέπνιγον αὐτόν.

49While he was still speaking, someone came from the synagogue ruler's house and said, "Your daughter is dead. Do not trouble the teacher any longer."
Ἔτι αὐτοῦ λαλοῦντος ἔρχεταί τις παρὰ τοῦ ἀρχισυναγώγου ⸀λέγων ὅτι Τέθνηκεν ἡ θυγάτηρ σου, ⸀μηκέτι σκύλλε τὸν διδάσκαλον.
50But Jesus heard it and said to him, "Do not be afraid. Only believe, and she will be saved."
ὁ δὲ Ἰησοῦς ἀκούσας ἀπεκρίθη ⸀αὐτῷ· Μὴ φοβοῦ, μόνον ⸀πίστευσον, καὶ σωθήσεται.
51When he came to the house, he let no one go in with him except Peter, John, and James, and the child's father and mother.
ἐλθὼν δὲ εἰς τὴν οἰκίαν οὐκ ἀφῆκεν εἰσελθεῖν ⸂τινα σὺν αὐτῷ⸃ εἰ μὴ Πέτρον καὶ Ἰωάννην καὶ Ἰάκωβον καὶ τὸν πατέρα τῆς παιδὸς καὶ τὴν μητέρα.
52Everyone was weeping and mourning for her, but he said, "Do not weep; she is not dead but sleeping."
ἔκλαιον δὲ πάντες καὶ ἐκόπτοντο αὐτήν. ὁ δὲ εἶπεν· Μὴ κλαίετε, ⸂οὐ γὰρ⸃ ἀπέθανεν ἀλλὰ καθεύδει.
53And they laughed at him, because they knew she was dead.
καὶ κατεγέλων αὐτοῦ, εἰδότες ὅτι ἀπέθανεν.
54But he took her by the hand and called out, "Child, get up!"
αὐτὸς ⸀δὲ κρατήσας τῆς χειρὸς αὐτῆς ἐφώνησεν λέγων· Ἡ παῖς, ⸀ἔγειρε.
55Her spirit returned, and she stood up at once. Then he directed that she be given something to eat.
καὶ ἐπέστρεψεν τὸ πνεῦμα αὐτῆς, καὶ ἀνέστη παραχρῆμα, καὶ διέταξεν αὐτῇ δοθῆναι φαγεῖν.
56Her parents were astounded, but he ordered them to tell no one what had happened.
καὶ ἐξέστησαν οἱ γονεῖς αὐτῆς· ὁ δὲ παρήγγειλεν αὐτοῖς μηδενὶ εἰπεῖν τὸ γεγονός.
Mark 5,21-43
21When Jesus had crossed back in the boat to the other side, a large crowd gathered around him while he was by the sea.
Καὶ διαπεράσαντος τοῦ Ἰησοῦ ἐν τῷ πλοίῳ πάλιν εἰς τὸ πέραν συνήχθη ὄχλος πολὺς ἐπʼ αὐτόν, καὶ ἦν παρὰ τὴν θάλασσαν.
22One of the synagogue leaders, named Jairus, came, and when he saw Jesus he fell at his feet
⸀καὶ ἔρχεται εἷς τῶν ἀρχισυναγώγων, ὀνόματι Ἰάϊρος, καὶ ἰδὼν αὐτὸν πίπτει πρὸς τοὺς πόδας αὐτοῦ
23and pleaded with him urgently: "My little daughter is dying. Please come and lay your hands on her, so that she may be healed and live."
καὶ ⸀παρακαλεῖ αὐτὸν πολλὰ λέγων ὅτι Τὸ θυγάτριόν μου ἐσχάτως ἔχει, ἵνα ἐλθὼν ἐπιθῇς ⸂τὰς χεῖρας αὐτῇ⸃ ⸀ἵνα σωθῇ καὶ ⸀ζήσῃ.
24So Jesus went with him, and a large crowd followed and pressed in around him.
καὶ ἀπῆλθεν μετʼ αὐτοῦ. Καὶ ἠκολούθει αὐτῷ ὄχλος πολύς, καὶ συνέθλιβον αὐτόν.

35While he was still speaking, messengers came from the house of the synagogue leader and said, "Your daughter is dead. Why trouble the teacher any further?"
Ἔτι αὐτοῦ λαλοῦντος ἔρχονται ἀπὸ τοῦ ἀρχισυναγώγου λέγοντες ὅτι Ἡ θυγάτηρ σου ἀπέθανεν· τί ἔτι σκύλλεις τὸν διδάσκαλον;
36But Jesus, overhearing what was said, told the synagogue leader, "Do not be afraid; only believe."
ὁ δὲ Ἰησοῦς ⸀παρακούσας τὸν λόγον λαλούμενον λέγει τῷ ἀρχισυναγώγῳ· Μὴ φοβοῦ, μόνον πίστευε.
37He let no one go with him except Peter, James, and John the brother of James.
καὶ οὐκ ἀφῆκεν οὐδένα ⸂μετʼ αὐτοῦ⸃ συνακολουθῆσαι εἰ μὴ ⸀τὸν Πέτρον καὶ Ἰάκωβον καὶ Ἰωάννην τὸν ἀδελφὸν Ἰακώβου.
38They came to the house of the synagogue leader, and Jesus saw the commotion—people weeping and wailing loudly.
καὶ ⸀ἔρχονται εἰς τὸν οἶκον τοῦ ἀρχισυναγώγου, καὶ θεωρεῖ θόρυβον ⸀καὶ κλαίοντας καὶ ἀλαλάζοντας πολλά,
39He went in and said to them, "Why all this commotion and weeping? The child is not dead but asleep."
καὶ εἰσελθὼν λέγει αὐτοῖς· Τί θορυβεῖσθε καὶ κλαίετε; τὸ παιδίον οὐκ ἀπέθανεν ἀλλὰ καθεύδει.
40They laughed at him. But he put them all outside and took the child's father and mother and those who were with him, and went in where the child was.
καὶ κατεγέλων αὐτοῦ. ⸀αὐτὸς δὲ ἐκβαλὼν πάντας παραλαμβάνει τὸν πατέρα τοῦ παιδίου καὶ τὴν μητέρα καὶ τοὺς μετʼ αὐτοῦ, καὶ εἰσπορεύεται ὅπου ἦν τὸ ⸀παιδίον·
41Taking the child by the hand, he said to her, "Talitha koum!"—which means, "Little girl, I say to you, get up!"
καὶ κρατήσας τῆς χειρὸς τοῦ παιδίου λέγει αὐτῇ· Ταλιθα ⸀κουμ, ὅ ἐστιν μεθερμηνευόμενον· Τὸ κοράσιον, σοὶ λέγω, ⸀ἔγειρε.
42Immediately the girl stood up and began to walk, for she was twelve years old. And they were utterly astonished.
καὶ ⸀εὐθὺς ἀνέστη τὸ κοράσιον καὶ περιεπάτει, ἦν γὰρ ἐτῶν δώδεκα. καὶ ἐξέστησαν ⸁εὐθὺς ἐκστάσει μεγάλῃ.
43He gave them strict orders that no one should know about this, and he told them to give her something to eat.
καὶ διεστείλατο αὐτοῖς πολλὰ ἵνα μηδεὶς γνοῖ τοῦτο, καὶ εἶπεν δοθῆναι αὐτῇ φαγεῖν.
