Paul in Berea
In Berea, the Jews received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures daily to see if Paul's message was true. Many came to believe, including prominent Greek women and men. But when the Jews from Thessalonika heard that God's word was being preached in Berea, they came there and stirred up the crowds. The brothers sent Paul on to Athens, while Silas and Timothy remained behind.
Acts 17,10-15
10That very night the brothers sent Paul and Silas away to Berea. On arriving, they went into the Jewish synagogue.
Οἱ δὲ ἀδελφοὶ εὐθέως ⸀διὰ νυκτὸς ἐξέπεμψαν τόν τε Παῦλον καὶ τὸν Σιλᾶν εἰς Βέροιαν, οἵτινες παραγενόμενοι εἰς τὴν συναγωγὴν ⸂τῶν Ἰουδαίων ἀπῄεσαν⸃·
11These people were more open-minded than those in Thessalonica: they received the word with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see whether these things were so.
οὗτοι δὲ ἦσαν εὐγενέστεροι τῶν ἐν Θεσσαλονίκῃ, οἵτινες ἐδέξαντο τὸν λόγον μετὰ πάσης προθυμίας, ⸀τὸ καθʼ ἡμέραν ἀνακρίνοντες τὰς γραφὰς εἰ ἔχοι ταῦτα οὕτως.
12Many of them came to believe, along with a good number of prominent Greek women and not a few men.
πολλοὶ μὲν οὖν ἐξ αὐτῶν ἐπίστευσαν, καὶ τῶν Ἑλληνίδων γυναικῶν τῶν εὐσχημόνων καὶ ἀνδρῶν οὐκ ὀλίγοι.
13But when the Jews from Thessalonica learned that the word of God was being proclaimed by Paul in Berea as well, they came there too, stirring up and inciting the crowds.
ὡς δὲ ἔγνωσαν οἱ ἀπὸ τῆς Θεσσαλονίκης Ἰουδαῖοι ὅτι καὶ ἐν τῇ Βεροίᾳ κατηγγέλη ὑπὸ τοῦ Παύλου ὁ λόγος τοῦ θεοῦ, ἦλθον κἀκεῖ σαλεύοντες ⸂καὶ ταράσσοντες⸃ τοὺς ὄχλους.
14So the brothers immediately sent Paul off toward the sea, while Silas and Timothy stayed behind.
εὐθέως δὲ τότε τὸν Παῦλον ἐξαπέστειλαν οἱ ἀδελφοὶ πορεύεσθαι ⸀ἕως ἐπὶ τὴν θάλασσαν· ⸂ὑπέμεινάν τε⸃ ὅ τε Σιλᾶς καὶ ὁ Τιμόθεος ἐκεῖ.
15Those who escorted Paul brought him as far as Athens, and then left with instructions for Silas and Timothy to join him as soon as possible.
οἱ δὲ ⸀καθιστάνοντες τὸν Παῦλον ⸀ἤγαγον ἕως Ἀθηνῶν, καὶ λαβόντες ἐντολὴν πρὸς τὸν Σιλᾶν καὶ ⸀τὸν Τιμόθεον ἵνα ὡς τάχιστα ἔλθωσιν πρὸς αὐτὸν ἐξῄεσαν.
