Zechariah is Stoned and Joash Murdered
The Spirit of God came upon Zechariah, the son of the priest Jehoiada, who warned the people that they had forsaken the Lord. He was stoned in the courtyard of the house of the Lord at the command of King Joash. At the turn of the year, a small Aramean army defeated Judah as God's judgment, and finally the severely wounded King Joash was murdered on his bed by his own servants in revenge for the blood of Zechariah.
2 Chronicles 24,20-27
20Then the Spirit of God clothed Zechariah son of Jehoiada the priest. He stood above the people and said to them, "This is what God says: Why do you break the commandments of the LORD, so that you cannot prosper? Because you have forsaken the LORD, he has forsaken you."
21But they conspired against him, and at the king's command they stoned him to death in the courtyard of the house of the LORD.
22King Joash did not remember the kindness that Jehoiada his father had shown him, but killed Jehoiada's son. As he lay dying he said, "May the LORD see this and call you to account."
23At the turn of the year the army of Aram marched against Joash. They invaded Judah and Jerusalem, destroyed all the leaders of the people, and sent all the plunder to the king of Damascus.
24Though the army of Aram had come with only a few men, the LORD delivered into their hands a very great army, because Judah had forsaken the LORD, the God of their fathers. So they carried out judgment on Joash.
25When the Arameans withdrew, they left him severely wounded. His own servants conspired against him for the blood of the sons of Jehoiada the priest, and they killed him on his bed. So he died, and they buried him in the City of David, but not in the tombs of the kings.

26Those who conspired against him were Zabad, son of Shimeath the Ammonite woman, and Jehozabad, son of Shimrith the Moabite woman.
27The account of his sons, the many prophecies against him, and the restoration of the house of God are written in the commentary on the Book of the Kings. And Amaziah his son succeeded him as king.
