Satan Bound for a Thousand Years
An angel comes down from heaven with the key to the abyss and a great chain. He seizes the dragon – that ancient serpent, who is the devil and Satan – and binds him for a thousand years. Satan is thrown into the abyss, which is sealed over him so that he cannot deceive the nations until the thousand years are ended; after this he must be released for a short time. John also sees thrones and the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony about Jesus and because of God’s word, and who had not worshiped the beast. They come to life and reign with Christ for a thousand years. This is the first resurrection.
Revelation 20,1-6
1Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, holding the key to the abyss and a great chain in his hand.
2He seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years.
3He threw him into the abyss, locked it, and sealed it over him, so that he could no longer lead the nations astray until the thousand years were completed. After that he must be released for a short time.
4Then I saw thrones, and those who sat on them were given authority to judge. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for the testimony of Jesus and for the word of God, those who had not worshiped the beast or its image and had not received its mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with Christ for a thousand years.
5The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were completed. This is the first resurrection.
6Blessed and holy is the one who shares in the first resurrection. Over such people the second death has no power; they will be priests of God and of Christ, and they will reign with him for a thousand years.
