Mentioned in Levi's genealogy

Hasiel is mentioned among the Levitical clan leaders who were recorded in 1 Chronicles as part of the organization of the Levitical service.

9The sons of Shimei: Shelomoth, Haziel, and Haran—three in all. These were the heads of the families of Ladan.

The assignment of duties for the Levites under David

As part of the lineage of Levi, Hasiel and his relatives were assigned tasks related to the service at the sanctuary during David's reorganization of temple worship.

6David divided them into divisions according to the sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.

11Jahath was the chief and Zizah the second, but Jeush and Beriah did not have many sons, so they were counted as one family with one assignment. [footnote: Zizah is called Zina in the preceding verse; both spellings occur in the Hebrew text.]

Organization of the Gershonite line

Hasiel belonged to the line of Gershon among the Levites and was recorded as one of the heads of the sons of Laadan within the Gershonite clan.

The Role of the Levites in Worship

Hazi'el and the other Levitical clan leaders were central to establishing the organized worship that David prepared for the coming temple in Jerusalem.

24These were the sons of Levi by their families—the heads of families as they were registered, listed by name, head by head—those twenty years old and older who did the work of the service of the house of the LORD.
25For David had said, "The LORD, the God of Israel, has given rest to his people, and he has come to dwell in Jerusalem forever.
26So the Levites no longer need to carry the tabernacle or any of the articles used in its service."
27For by David's final instructions, the sons of Levi were counted from twenty years old and older.
28Their duty was to assist the sons of Aaron in the service of the house of the LORD: to care for the courts and the side rooms, for the purification of all the holy things, and for the work of the service of the house of God—
1These were the divisions of the sons of Aaron. The sons of Aaron: Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.
2Nadab and Abihu died before their father, and they had no sons, so Eleazar and Ithamar served as priests.
3With the help of Zadok from the sons of Eleazar and Ahimelech from the sons of Ithamar, David divided them into their appointed order of service.
