Jaroah was a descendant of the tribe of Gad and is mentioned in the genealogy in 1 Chronicles. He was the son of Gilead and the father of Huri, belonging to one of the Gadite families that lived in the region of Bashan. He is part of the genealogical records kept during the reigns of Jotham and Jeroboam.

The Tribe of Gad in Bashan

Jaroah's clan lived in Gilead and the Bashan region, which was allotted to the tribe of Gad east of the Jordan.

11The sons of Gad lived opposite them in the land of Bashan as far as Salecah:
וּבְנֵי־גָ֣ד לְנֶגְדָּ֗ם יָֽשְׁב֛וּ בְּאֶ֥רֶץ הַבָּשָׁ֖ן עַד־סַלְכָֽה׃ ‬
12Joel the chief, Shapham the second, then Janai and Shaphat in Bashan.
יוֹאֵ֣ל הָרֹ֔אשׁ וְשָׁפָ֖ם הַמִּשְׁנֶ֑ה וְיַעְנַ֥י וְשָׁפָ֖ט בַּבָּשָֽׁן׃ ‬
13Their kinsmen, by their fathers' houses, were Michael, Meshullam, Sheba, Jorai, Jacan, Zia, and Eber—seven in all.
וַאֲחֵיהֶ֞ם לְבֵ֣ית אֲבוֹתֵיהֶ֗ם מִֽיכָאֵ֡ל וּמְשֻׁלָּ֡ם וְ֠שֶׁבַע וְיוֹרַ֧י וְיַעְכָּ֛ן וְזִ֥יעַ וָעֵ֖בֶר שִׁבְעָֽה׃ ס ‬
14These were the sons of Abihail son of Huri, son of Jaroah, son of Gilead, son of Michael, son of Jeshishai, son of Jahdo, son of Buz;

16They lived in Gilead, in Bashan and its villages, and in all the pasturelands of Sharon to their farthest limits.
וַיֵּֽשְׁב֛וּ בַּגִּלְעָ֥ד בַּבָּשָׁ֖ן וּבִבְנֹתֶ֑יהָ וּבְכָֽל־מִגְרְשֵׁ֥י שָׁר֖וֹן עַל־תּוֹצְאוֹתָֽם׃ ‬
