Together with other women, Joanna used her own resources to support Jesus and the twelve disciples during their ministry.

Joanna was among the women who went to the tomb on Easter morning with fragrant oils and found it empty.
1 On the first day of the week, at early dawn, the women came to the tomb bringing the spices they had prepared. Gk τῇ δὲ μιᾷ τῶν σαββάτων ὄρθρου βαθέως ⸂ἐπὶ τὸ μνῆμα ἦλθον⸃ φέρουσαι ἃ ἡτοίμασαν ⸀ἀρώματα.
2 They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, Gk εὗρον δὲ τὸν λίθον ἀποκεκυλισμένον ἀπὸ τοῦ μνημείου,
3 but when they went in, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. Gk ⸂εἰσελθοῦσαι δὲ⸃ οὐχ εὗρον τὸ ⸀σῶμα.
10 It was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the other women with them who told this to the apostles. Gk ἦσαν δὲ ἡ Μαγδαληνὴ Μαρία καὶ Ἰωάννα καὶ Μαρία ⸀ἡ Ἰακώβου καὶ αἱ λοιπαὶ σὺν αὐταῖς· ⸀ἔλεγον πρὸς τοὺς ἀποστόλους ταῦτα.
At the tomb, Joanna and the other women met two angels who proclaimed Jesus' resurrection to them.
4 While they stood there bewildered, two men in dazzling clothes suddenly stood beside them. Gk καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τῷ ⸀ἀπορεῖσθαι αὐτὰς περὶ τούτου καὶ ἰδοὺ ἄνδρες δύο ἐπέστησαν αὐταῖς ἐν ⸂ἐσθῆτι ἀστραπτούσῃ⸃.
5 The women were terrified and bowed their faces to the ground, but the men said to them: "Why do you look for the living among the dead? Gk ἐμφόβων δὲ γενομένων αὐτῶν καὶ κλινουσῶν ⸂τὰ πρόσωπα⸃ εἰς τὴν γῆν εἶπαν πρὸς αὐτάς· Τί ζητεῖτε τὸν ζῶντα μετὰ τῶν νεκρῶν;
6 He is not here; he has risen. Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee, Gk ⸂οὐκ ἔστιν ὧδε, ἀλλὰ ἠγέρθη.⸃ μνήσθητε ὡς ἐλάλησεν ὑμῖν ἔτι ὢν ἐν τῇ Γαλιλαίᾳ,
7 that the Son of Man must be handed over to sinful men, be crucified, and rise again on the third day." Gk λέγων ⸂τὸν υἱὸν τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ὅτι δεῖ⸃ παραδοθῆναι εἰς χεῖρας ἀνθρώπων ἁμαρτωλῶν καὶ σταυρωθῆναι καὶ τῇ τρίτῃ ἡμέρᾳ ἀναστῆναι.
8 Then they remembered his words. Gk καὶ ἐμνήσθησαν τῶν ῥημάτων αὐτοῦ,
Joanna helped bring the message of Jesus' resurrection to the eleven apostles, even though they initially did not believe the women's testimony.
9 And returning from the tomb, they reported all this to the Eleven and to all the rest. Gk καὶ ὑποστρέψασαι ἀπὸ τοῦ μνημείου ἀπήγγειλαν ταῦτα πάντα τοῖς ἕνδεκα καὶ πᾶσιν τοῖς λοιποῖς.
10 It was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the other women with them who told this to the apostles. Gk ἦσαν δὲ ἡ Μαγδαληνὴ Μαρία καὶ Ἰωάννα καὶ Μαρία ⸀ἡ Ἰακώβου καὶ αἱ λοιπαὶ σὺν αὐταῖς· ⸀ἔλεγον πρὸς τοὺς ἀποστόλους ταῦτα.
11 But these words seemed to them like nonsense, and they did not believe the women. Gk καὶ ἐφάνησαν ἐνώπιον αὐτῶν ὡσεὶ λῆρος τὰ ῥήματα ⸀ταῦτα, καὶ ἠπίστουν αὐταῖς.
