Shomer (also spelled Shomer) was a descendant of the tribe of Issachar and father of Ahi, according to 1 Chronicles. The name also appears in connection with the murder of King Joash of Judah, where one of the murderers was the son of a woman named Shomer (Shimrith). Shomer is briefly mentioned in the Bible's genealogies as part of Israel's tribal history.
2The sons of Tola: Uzzi, Rephaiah, Jeriel, Jahmai, Ibsam, and Samuel — heads of their fathers' houses. Of the line of Tola they were mighty warriors in their generations; in the days of David their number was twenty-two thousand six hundred.
3The son of Uzzi: Izrahiah. The sons of Izrahiah: Michael, Obadiah, Joel, and Isshiah — five, all of them chiefs.* [*Footnote: Only four names are listed here; the total of five may include Izrahiah himself.]
4Along with them, by their generations and by their fathers' houses, were fighting units of the army, thirty-six thousand strong, for they had many wives and sons.
Shomer was one of several sons of Heber, and his lineage was preserved in Israel's tribal history as part of the tribe of Asher, which also mentions a Shomer.
25When the Arameans withdrew, they left him severely wounded. His own servants conspired against him for the blood of the sons of Jehoiada the priest, and they killed him on his bed. So he died, and they buried him in the City of David, but not in the tombs of the kings.
