Number of men from Bethlehem and Netophah who returned from the Babylonian exile

The number 188 appears in Nehemiah 7:26 as the count of men from Bethlehem and Netophah who returned to Judah after the Babylonian exile. Although the number itself does not have a broad symbolic tradition in Jewish numerology, its connection to Bethlehem is noteworthy. Bethlehem was David's birthplace and the place where the prophet Micah predicted that a ruler over Israel would come from (Micah 5:1).
