The number 7100 appears in 1 Chronicles 12:26, where it is stated that seven thousand one hundred brave warriors from the tribe of Simeon came to Hebron to make David king over all Israel. The context is the great gathering of tribal warriors who recognized David's kingship after Saul's death. Although 7100 does not have a broad independent symbolic tradition, it carries the resonances of its components: the number 7, which symbolizes perfection and divine wholeness, and 100, which expresses fullness and completeness. In this context, the number emphasizes that Simeon's contribution to David's army was significant and complete. 1 Chron. 12:23–40 lists the armed forces from each tribe who came to David in Hebron. Simeon's contribution of 7,100 men was modest compared with the largest contingents, such as Zebulun (50,000) and Naphtali (37,000), yet still larger than for example Judah's 6,800. The tribe of Simeon had its inheritance within the territory of Judah (Josh. 19:1–9), which may explain their early loyalty to David, who himself belonged to the tribe of Judah.
