Almodad is the first of Joktan's thirteen sons and belongs to the lineage of Shem through Eber. He is listed in biblical genealogies as one of the ancestors of the peoples in the southern part of the Arabian Peninsula. The etymology of his name is disputed but is often interpreted as 'the immeasurable.' Almodad represents Joktan's branch of Eber's descendants—the line that did not lead to Abraham, but which, according to biblical tradition, gave rise to significant South Arabian ethnic groups.
According to the text, Almodad and his brothers settled in the mountainous regions to the east, from Mesha to Sephar. This description marks the dispersion of Joktan's descendants after the flood.
32These are the clans of Noah's sons, according to their family lines, within their nations. From these the nations spread out over the earth after the flood.
Almodad belongs to Joktan's line of Eber's descendants, unlike Peleg's line, which led further to Abraham. This shows the branching of the Semitic peoples.
