Show the four beastsParallel to the statue in chapter 2

Daniel saw four great beasts coming up from the sea. This vision expands on the dream of the statue and reveals the same four world empires from another perspective.

Lion with Eagle's Wings

The first was like a lion with eagle's wings. The wings were torn off; it was lifted up and given a human heart. Babylon.

The second beast looked like a bear. It was raised up on one side and had three ribs in its mouth. Media-Persia.

The third was like a leopard with four bird's wings on its back and four heads. Greece (four successor kingdoms).

Terrifying Beast

The fourth beast was dreadful and terrifying, with great iron teeth. It had ten horns. The Roman Empire.

The Little Horn

Among the horns a little horn came up. Three horns were plucked out by the roots. The horn had eyes and a mouth that spoke great things.

The Ancient of Days

The Ancient of Days took his seat. His clothing was white as snow, and the hair of his head like pure wool. His throne was flaming fire. Judgment was set.

The Son of Man

With the clouds of heaven came one like a son of man. He was given dominion, glory, and a kingdom—an everlasting dominion.

In the first year of Belshazzar king of Babylon, Daniel had a dream and visions passed through his mind as he lay on his bed. He wrote the dream down, and this is the account of it:
Daniel said: In my vision at night I saw the four winds of heaven churning up the great sea,
and four huge beasts came up out of the sea, each different from the others.
The first was like a lion, and it had the wings of an eagle. I watched until its wings were torn off, and it was lifted from the ground and made to stand on two feet like a man, and the mind of a man was given to it.
Then I saw a second beast, which looked like a bear. It was raised up on one side, and it had three ribs in its mouth, between its teeth. It was told, "Get up, devour much flesh!"
After that I looked, and there before me was another beast, like a leopard. On its back it had four wings like those of a bird, and it had four heads. And it was given authority to rule.
After that, in my vision at night, I saw a fourth beast—terrifying and dreadful and immensely strong. It had great iron teeth; it devoured and crushed and trampled underfoot whatever was left. It was different from all the beasts before it, and it had ten horns.
While I was studying the horns, another horn came up among them, a small one, and three of the first horns were torn out before it. This horn had eyes like the eyes of a man and a mouth that spoke arrogantly.
I watched until thrones were set in place, and the Ancient of Days took his seat. His clothing was white as snow, the hair of his head like pure wool. His throne was flaming with fire, and its wheels were all ablaze.
A river of fire flowed out from before him. Thousands upon thousands attended him; ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him. The court was seated, and the books were opened.
I kept watching because of the arrogant words the horn was speaking. I watched until the beast was killed and its body destroyed and thrown into the blazing fire.
The other beasts had already been stripped of their authority, but they were allowed to live on for a season and a time.
In my vision at night I saw one like a son of man coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient of Days and was led into his presence.
To him was given authority, glory, and a kingdom; all peoples, nations, and languages will serve him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and his kingdom will never be destroyed.
I, Daniel, was troubled in spirit within me, and the visions that passed through my mind alarmed me.
So I approached one of those standing there and asked him for the truth about all this. He answered me and made known to me the meaning of these things:
"These four great beasts are four kings that will arise from the earth.
But the holy ones of the Most High will receive the kingdom and will possess it forever—yes, for ever and ever.
Then I wanted to know the truth about the fourth beast, which was different from all the others—most terrifying, with its iron teeth and bronze claws, devouring and crushing and trampling underfoot whatever was left;
and about the ten horns on its head, and about the other horn that came up, before which three of them fell—the horn that had eyes and a mouth that spoke arrogantly, and that looked more imposing than the others.
As I watched, this horn was waging war against the holy ones and defeating them,
until the Ancient of Days came and judgment was given in favor of the holy ones of the Most High, and the time came when they took possession of the kingdom.
He said: "The fourth beast is a fourth kingdom that will appear on earth. It will be different from all the other kingdoms and will devour the whole earth, trampling it down and crushing it.
The ten horns are ten kings who will rise from this kingdom. After them another king will arise, different from the earlier ones, and he will bring down three kings.
He will speak against the Most High and wear down the holy ones of the Most High and try to change the appointed times and the law. They will be handed over to him for a time, times, and half a time.
But the court will sit, and his dominion will be taken away, destroyed and utterly abolished.
Then the kingship, the dominion, and the greatness of all the kingdoms under heaven will be given to the people of the holy ones of the Most High. His kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and all rulers will serve and obey him."
Here the account ends. I, Daniel, was deeply disturbed by my thoughts, and my face turned pale, but I kept the matter to myself.
