The Man with the Withered Hand
Jesus enters the synagogue on the Sabbath, where there is a man with a withered hand. The Pharisees watch him closely to see if he will heal on the Sabbath, so that they may accuse him. Jesus tells the man to stand up and come forward, and asks: "Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill?" But they remain silent. He looks around at them with anger, grieved by the hardness of their hearts, and says to the man: "Stretch out your hand." The man stretches it out, and his hand is restored. The Pharisees go out immediately and begin plotting with the Herodians how they may destroy him.
Mark 3,1-6
1Again he went into a synagogue, and a man with a withered hand was there.
Καὶ εἰσῆλθεν πάλιν ⸀εἰς συναγωγήν, καὶ ἦν ἐκεῖ ἄνθρωπος ἐξηραμμένην ἔχων τὴν χεῖρα.
2They watched him closely to see whether he would heal the man on the Sabbath, so that they could bring a charge against him.
καὶ παρετήρουν αὐτὸν εἰ τοῖς σάββασιν θεραπεύσει αὐτόν, ἵνα ⸀κατηγορήσωσιν αὐτοῦ.
3He said to the man with the withered hand, "Stand up here in front of everyone."
καὶ λέγει τῷ ἀνθρώπῳ τῷ ⸂τὴν χεῖρα ἔχοντι ξηράν⸃· ⸀Ἔγειρε εἰς τὸ μέσον.
4Then he asked them, "Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do harm, to save a life or to kill?" But they said nothing.
καὶ λέγει αὐτοῖς· Ἔξεστιν τοῖς σάββασιν ⸀ἀγαθοποιῆσαι ἢ κακοποιῆσαι, ψυχὴν σῶσαι ἢ ἀποκτεῖναι; οἱ δὲ ἐσιώπων.
5He looked around at them in anger, deeply grieved at their hardness of heart, and said to the man, "Stretch out your hand." He stretched it out, and his hand was restored.
καὶ περιβλεψάμενος αὐτοὺς μετʼ ὀργῆς, συλλυπούμενος ἐπὶ τῇ πωρώσει τῆς καρδίας αὐτῶν, λέγει τῷ ἀνθρώπῳ· Ἔκτεινον τὴν ⸀χεῖρα· καὶ ἐξέτεινεν, καὶ ἀπεκατεστάθη ἡ χεὶρ ⸀αὐτοῦ.
6Then the Pharisees went out and immediately began plotting with the Herodians how to destroy him.
καὶ ἐξελθόντες οἱ Φαρισαῖοι ⸀εὐθὺς μετὰ τῶν Ἡρῳδιανῶν συμβούλιον ⸀ἐδίδουν κατʼ αὐτοῦ ὅπως αὐτὸν ἀπολέσωσιν.
Matthew 12,9-14
9Moving on from there, he went into their synagogue,
Καὶ μεταβὰς ἐκεῖθεν ἦλθεν εἰς τὴν συναγωγὴν αὐτῶν·
10and there was a man with a withered hand. Looking for a way to accuse him, they asked, "Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?"
καὶ ἰδοὺ ⸀ἄνθρωπος χεῖρα ἔχων ξηράν. καὶ ἐπηρώτησαν αὐτὸν λέγοντες· Εἰ ἔξεστι τοῖς σάββασιν ⸀θεραπεύειν; ἵνα κατηγορήσωσιν αὐτοῦ.
11He said to them, "Suppose one of you has a single sheep, and it falls into a pit on the Sabbath. Won't he take hold of it and lift it out?
ὁ δὲ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς· Τίς ⸀ἔσται ἐξ ὑμῶν ἄνθρωπος ὃς ἕξει πρόβατον ἕν, καὶ ἐὰν ἐμπέσῃ τοῦτο τοῖς σάββασιν εἰς βόθυνον, οὐχὶ κρατήσει αὐτὸ καὶ ἐγερεῖ;
12How much more valuable is a person than a sheep! So it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath."
πόσῳ οὖν διαφέρει ἄνθρωπος προβάτου. ὥστε ἔξεστιν τοῖς σάββασιν καλῶς ποιεῖν.
13Then he said to the man, "Stretch out your hand." He stretched it out, and it was restored, as sound as the other.
τότε λέγει τῷ ἀνθρώπῳ· Ἔκτεινόν ⸂σου τὴν χεῖρα⸃· καὶ ἐξέτεινεν, καὶ ἀπεκατεστάθη ὑγιὴς ὡς ἡ ἄλλη.
14But the Pharisees went out and took counsel against him, how they might destroy him.
⸂ἐξελθόντες δὲ οἱ Φαρισαῖοι συμβούλιον ἔλαβον κατʼ αὐτοῦ⸃ ὅπως αὐτὸν ἀπολέσωσιν.
Luke 6,6-11
6On another Sabbath he went into the synagogue and was teaching. A man was there whose right hand was withered,
Ἐγένετο ⸀δὲ ἐν ἑτέρῳ σαββάτῳ εἰσελθεῖν αὐτὸν εἰς τὴν συναγωγὴν καὶ διδάσκειν· καὶ ἦν ⸂ἄνθρωπος ἐκεῖ⸃ καὶ ἡ χεὶρ αὐτοῦ ἡ δεξιὰ ἦν ξηρά·
7and the scribes and the Pharisees were watching closely to see whether he would heal on the Sabbath, so that they might find grounds to accuse him.
⸀παρετηροῦντο ⸀δὲ οἱ γραμματεῖς καὶ οἱ Φαρισαῖοι εἰ ἐν τῷ σαββάτῳ ⸀θεραπεύει, ἵνα εὕρωσιν ⸀κατηγορεῖν αὐτοῦ.
8But he knew their thoughts, and he said to the man with the withered hand, "Get up and stand here in front of everyone." So he rose and stood there.
αὐτὸς δὲ ᾔδει τοὺς διαλογισμοὺς αὐτῶν, ⸂εἶπεν δὲ⸃ τῷ ⸀ἀνδρὶ τῷ ξηρὰν ἔχοντι τὴν χεῖρα· ⸀Ἔγειρε καὶ στῆθι εἰς τὸ μέσον· ⸀καὶ ἀναστὰς ἔστη.
9Then Jesus said to them, "I ask you: is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do harm, to save a life or to destroy it?"
εἶπεν ⸀δὲ ὁ Ἰησοῦς πρὸς αὐτούς· ⸀Ἐπερωτῶ ὑμᾶς, ⸀εἰ ἔξεστιν ⸂τῷ σαββάτῳ⸃ ἀγαθοποιῆσαι ἢ κακοποιῆσαι, ψυχὴν σῶσαι ἢ ⸀ἀπολέσαι;
10He looked around at them all and said to the man, "Stretch out your hand." He did, and his hand was restored.
καὶ περιβλεψάμενος πάντας αὐτοὺς εἶπεν αὐτῷ· Ἔκτεινον τὴν χεῖρά σου· ὁ δὲ ἐποίησεν, καὶ ἀπεκατεστάθη ἡ χεὶρ ⸀αὐτοῦ.
11But they were filled with senseless fury and began discussing with one another what they might do to Jesus.
αὐτοὶ δὲ ἐπλήσθησαν ἀνοίας, καὶ διελάλουν πρὸς ἀλλήλους τί ἂν ποιήσαιεν τῷ Ἰησοῦ.
