Shear-Jashub was the eldest son of the prophet Isaiah. His name means 'a remnant shall return' and served as a prophetic sign to Judah that a faithful remnant of the people would survive God's judgment and turn back to Him.
Shear-Jashub was brought by his father Isaiah to meet King Ahaz at the end of the Upper Pool's aqueduct. His presence and name conveyed a prophetic message to the king.
3Then the LORD said to Isaiah, "Go out to meet Ahaz, you and your son Shear-Jashub,* at the end of the aqueduct of the Upper Pool, on the road to the Launderer's Field,
4and say to him: Be careful, keep calm, and do not be afraid. Do not lose heart over these two smoldering stubs of firewood—over the fierce anger of Rezin and Aram and the son of Remaliah.
The name Shear-Jashub ('a remnant shall return') served as a living prophetic sign, reminding the people of both judgment and hope—that although judgment would come, a remnant would survive and turn back to God.
