Do not rejoice, Israel; do not exult like the nations. For you have played the whore, forsaking your God; you have loved a prostitute's wages on every threshing floor of grain.
Threshing floor and winepress will not feed them, and the new wine will fail them.
They will not remain in the LORD's land. Ephraim will return to Egypt, and in Assyria they will eat unclean food.
They will pour out no wine offerings to the LORD, and their sacrifices will not please him. Their bread will be like the bread of mourners; all who eat it will be defiled. For their bread will be for their hunger alone; it will not come into the house of the LORD.
What will you do on the day of the appointed feast, on the day of the LORD's festival?
For look, they have fled from the destruction: Egypt will gather them, Memphis will bury them. Nettles will take over their treasures of silver; thorns will fill their tents.
The days of punishment have come; the days of reckoning have arrived. Let Israel know it! The prophet is a fool, the man of the spirit is mad — because your guilt is so great and your hostility so deep.
The watchman of Ephraim is with my God — the prophet — yet a fowler's snare lies on all his paths, and hostility in the house of his God.
They have sunk deep into corruption, as in the days of Gibeah. He will remember their guilt; he will punish their sins.
Like grapes in the wilderness I found Israel; like the first fruit on the fig tree in its first season I saw your fathers. But they came to Baal Peor and consecrated themselves to shame; they became as detestable as the thing they loved.
Ephraim's glory will fly away like a bird — no birth, no pregnancy, no conception.
Even if they raise their children, I will bereave them until not one is left. Yes, woe to them when I turn away from them!
Ephraim, as I have seen it, was planted like Tyre in a pleasant meadow; but Ephraim must lead his children out to the slaughterer.
Give them, LORD — what will you give? Give them a womb that miscarries and breasts that are dry.
All their wickedness is at Gilgal; there I came to hate them. Because of their evil deeds I will drive them out of my house. I will love them no longer; all their officials are rebels.
Ephraim is struck down; their root is withered, they bear no fruit. Even if they give birth, I will put their cherished offspring to death.
My God will reject them because they have not listened to him, and they will be wanderers among the nations.
