Yet the number of the Israelites will be like the sand of the sea, which cannot be measured or counted. And in the place where it was said to them, "You are not my people," it will be said to them, "Children of the living God."
The people of Judah and the people of Israel will be gathered together; they will appoint one head over themselves and come up out of the land, for great will be the day of Jezreel.
Say to your brothers, "My People," and to your sisters, "Shown Mercy."
Bring charges against your mother, bring charges, for she is not my wife, and I am not her husband. Let her put away her whoring from her face and her adultery from between her breasts,
or I will strip her naked and expose her as on the day she was born. I will make her like a wilderness, turn her into a parched land, and put her to death with thirst.
I will show no mercy to her children, for they are the children of whoring.
Their mother has played the whore; she who conceived them has acted shamefully. She said, "I will go after my lovers, who give me my bread and my water, my wool and my flax, my oil and my drink."
Therefore I will hedge up her way with thorns; I will wall her in, and she will not find her paths.
She will chase her lovers but not overtake them; she will look for them but not find them. Then she will say, "I will go back to my first husband, for I was better off then than now."
She did not know that it was I who gave her the grain, the new wine, and the oil, I who lavished silver on her, and gold—which they used for Baal.
Therefore I will come back and take away my grain in its time and my new wine in its season, and I will reclaim my wool and my flax, which were given to cover her nakedness.
Now I will uncover her shame before the eyes of her lovers, and no one will rescue her from my hand.
I will put an end to all her rejoicing—her festivals, her new moons, her sabbaths, all her appointed feasts.
I will lay waste her vines and her fig trees, of which she said, "These are my wages, which my lovers gave me." I will turn them into a thicket, and the wild animals will devour them.
I will hold her to account for the days of the Baals, when she burned incense to them, decked herself with ring and jewels, and went after her lovers—but me she forgot, declares the LORD.
Therefore I am going to allure her; I will lead her into the wilderness and speak tenderly to her heart.
There I will give her back her vineyards and make the Valley of Achor a door of hope. There she will answer me as in the days of her youth, as on the day she came up out of the land of Egypt.
On that day, declares the LORD, you will call me "My husband," and no longer call me "My Baal."
I will remove the names of the Baals from her mouth, and their names will never be invoked again.
On that day I will make a covenant for them with the wild animals, the birds of the sky, and the creatures that crawl on the ground. Bow and sword and war I will abolish from the land, and I will let them lie down in safety.
I will betroth you to myself forever; I will betroth you to myself in righteousness and justice, in steadfast love and mercy.
I will betroth you to myself in faithfulness, and you will know the LORD.
On that day I will answer, declares the LORD—I will answer the heavens, and they will answer the earth;
the earth will answer the grain, the new wine, and the oil, and they will answer Jezreel.
I will sow her for myself in the land; I will show mercy to No Mercy, and I will say to Not My People, "You are my people," and he will say, "My God."
