Woe to the rebellious and defiled one — the city that oppresses!
She has obeyed no voice, she has accepted no correction. She has not trusted in the LORD; she has not drawn near to her God.
Her officials are roaring lions; her judges are wolves of the evening, leaving nothing for the morning.
Her prophets are reckless, treacherous men; her priests profane what is holy and do violence to the law.
The LORD within her is righteous; he does no wrong. Morning by morning he brings his justice to light; it never fails. Yet the unjust man knows no shame.
I have cut off nations; their battlements lie in ruins. I have laid waste their streets, with no one passing through. Their cities are devastated, with no one left, no inhabitant at all.
I said, "Surely now you will fear me and accept correction, and her dwelling will not be cut off, in spite of all that I have brought upon her." But they were all the more eager to corrupt all their deeds.
Therefore wait for me, declares the LORD, for the day when I rise to testify. For I have determined to gather the nations, to assemble the kingdoms, to pour out on them my indignation, all the heat of my anger. For in the fire of my jealousy all the earth will be consumed.
Then I will purify the lips of the peoples, so that all of them may call on the name of the LORD and serve him shoulder to shoulder.
From beyond the rivers of Cush my worshipers, my scattered people, will bring me an offering.
On that day you will no longer be put to shame for all the deeds by which you rebelled against me. For then I will remove from your midst your proud boasters, and never again will you be haughty on my holy mountain.
But I will leave within you a people humble and lowly, and they will take refuge in the name of the LORD.
The remnant of Israel will do no wrong; they will speak no lies, and no deceitful tongue will be found in their mouths. They will graze and lie down, and no one will make them afraid.
Sing aloud, daughter of Zion! Shout, O Israel! Rejoice and exult with all your heart, daughter of Jerusalem!
The LORD has taken away the judgments against you; he has cast out your enemy. The King of Israel, the LORD, is in your midst; never again will you fear disaster.
On that day it will be said to Jerusalem: "Do not fear, Zion; do not let your hands grow weak.
The LORD your God is in your midst, a warrior who saves. He will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you with his love; he will exult over you with singing."
Those who grieved, shut out from the appointed feasts, I will gather; they were yours—those for whom reproach was a heavy burden.
See, at that time I will deal with all who oppressed you. I will save the lame and gather the scattered, and I will make them a praise and a name in every land where they were put to shame.
At that time I will bring you home; at that time I will gather you. For I will make you a name and a praise among all the peoples of the earth, when I restore your fortunes before your very eyes, says the LORD.
