Then Bildad the Shuhite answered:

How long will you go on talking like this? The words of your mouth are a driving wind.

Does God pervert justice? Does the Almighty pervert what is right?

If your children sinned against him, he handed them over to their own rebellion.

But if you will seek God and plead with the Almighty for mercy,

if you are pure and upright, then surely he will rouse himself for you and restore your rightful home.

Then your beginnings will seem small, so great will your future be.

Ask the generations that came before; consider what their fathers discovered.

For we were born only yesterday and know nothing; our days on earth are a shadow.

Will they not teach you and tell you, and bring forth words out of their hearts?

Can papyrus grow tall where there is no marsh? Can reeds flourish without water?

Still in bloom and uncut, they wither faster than any grass.

So are the paths of all who forget God; the hope of the godless perishes.

His confidence is fragile, his trust a spider's web.

He leans on his house, but it does not stand; he clings to it, but it does not hold.

He is like a well-watered plant in the sunshine, spreading its shoots over the garden;

its roots wrap around a pile of rocks and cling to a house of stones.

But when it is torn from its place, that place disowns it: 'I never saw you.'

See, such is the joy of his way, and from the soil others spring up.

Surely God does not reject a blameless man, nor does he uphold the hand of evildoers.

He will yet fill your mouth with laughter and your lips with shouts of joy.

Those who hate you will be clothed in shame, and the tent of the wicked will be no more.
