At this my heart pounds too, and leaps from its place.

Listen closely to the rumble of his voice, to the thunder that goes out from his mouth.

He unleashes it under the whole sky, and his lightning to the ends of the earth.

After it his voice roars; he thunders with the voice of his majesty, and he holds nothing back once his voice is heard.

God thunders wondrously with his voice; he does great things beyond our understanding.

He says to the snow, "Fall to the earth," and to the rain shower and the mighty downpour, "Pour down."

He seals up the hand of everyone, so that all people may know his work.

Then the wild animals slip into their lairs and stay in their dens.

Out of its chamber comes the whirlwind, and cold from the scattering winds.

By the breath of God the ice is formed, and the broad waters freeze solid.

He loads the thundercloud with moisture; he scatters the clouds heavy with his lightning.

They wheel about, turning wherever he guides them, to carry out all that he commands them across the face of the inhabited world.

Whether for punishment, or for the good of his land, or in mercy, he sends them where he wills.

Listen to this, Job; stand still and consider the wonders of God.

Do you know how God gives them their orders, how he makes the lightning of his cloud flash out?

Do you know how the clouds are poised, the wonders of him who is perfect in knowledge?

You, whose clothes are stifling when the earth lies still beneath the south wind—

can you spread out the skies with him, hard as a mirror of cast metal?

Teach us, then, what we should say to him; we cannot set our case in order, for we are in the dark.

Should he be told that I want to speak? Would anyone ask to be swallowed up?

Now no one can look at the light, blazing in the skies, once the wind has swept past and swept them clean.

Out of the north comes a golden splendor; around God is awesome majesty.

The Almighty—we cannot fathom him. He is great in power, yet in justice and abundant righteousness he does no violence.

Therefore people fear him; he has no regard for any who are wise in heart.
