Then Job answered:

Even today my complaint is bitter; his hand lies heavy in spite of my groaning.

If only I knew where to find him, if only I could come to his dwelling!

I would lay my case before him and fill my mouth with arguments.

I would learn what he would answer me and understand what he would say.

Would he contend against me with his great power? No, he would surely listen to me.

There an upright man could reason with him, and I would be acquitted forever by my judge.

But if I go east, he is not there; if west, I cannot perceive him.

When he is at work in the north, I cannot see him; when he turns to the south, I catch no glimpse of him.

Yet he knows the way I take; when he has tested me, I will come out as gold.

My feet have held fast to his steps; I have kept to his way and not turned aside.

I have not departed from the command of his lips; I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my own desire.

But he stands alone, and who can turn him back? What he desires, that he does.

He will carry out what he has decreed for me, and many such plans are still with him.

That is why I am terrified before him; when I consider it, I am afraid of him.

God has made my heart faint; the Almighty has filled me with terror.

Yet I am not silenced by the darkness, by the thick gloom that covers my face.
