Revelation 21 is the climax of the Bible - the description of a new heaven and a new earth, and the new Jerusalem coming down from heaven. Here salvation history reaches its fulfillment: God dwells forever among his people.

Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more.
And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
And I heard a loud voice from the throne say: "Look, God's dwelling is with humanity. He will dwell with them, and they will be his peoples, and God himself will be with them.
He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; there will be no more grief or crying or pain. The former things have passed away."
And the one seated on the throne said, "Look, I am making all things new." Then he said, "Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true."
And he said to me: "It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the one who is thirsty I will give freely from the spring of the water of life.
The one who conquers will inherit these things, and I will be his God and he will be my son.
But as for the cowardly and unbelieving, the detestable, murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars—their place is in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death."
Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls full of the seven last plagues came and spoke with me. "Come," he said, "I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb."
And he carried me away in the Spirit to a great, high mountain and showed me the holy city, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God,
It had the glory of God. Its radiance was like a most precious stone, like jasper, clear as crystal.
It had a great, high wall with twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and on the gates were inscribed the names of the twelve tribes of the sons of Israel.
There were three gates on the east, three on the north, three on the south, and three on the west.
The wall of the city had twelve foundations, and on them were the twelve names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.
The one who spoke with me had a measuring rod of gold to measure the city, its gates, and its wall.
The city lies foursquare; its length is the same as its width. He measured the city with the rod: twelve thousand stadia.[^1] Its length, width, and height are equal.
He also measured its wall: one hundred forty-four cubits[^1] by human measurement, which is also the angel's. [^1]: About 216 feet, or roughly 65 meters.
The wall was built of jasper, and the city was pure gold, clear as glass.
The foundations of the city wall were adorned with every kind of precious stone: the first foundation jasper, the second sapphire, the third chalcedony, the fourth emerald,
the fifth sardonyx, the sixth carnelian, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase, the eleventh jacinth, the twelfth amethyst.
The twelve gates were twelve pearls, each gate made of a single pearl. And the main street of the city was pure gold, transparent as glass.
I saw no temple in the city, for the Lord God Almighty is its temple, and so is the Lamb.
The city has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp.
The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it.
Its gates will never be shut by day—and there will be no night there.
They will bring into it the glory and the honor of the nations.
Nothing unclean will ever enter it, nor anyone who practices what is detestable or false, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb's book of life.
