If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels but have no love, I am only a clanging gong or a crashing cymbal.

And if I have the gift of prophecy and know all mysteries and possess all knowledge, and if I have faith enough to move mountains, but have no love, I am nothing.

And if I give away everything I own to feed the poor, and if I hand over my body to be burned, but have no love, I gain nothing.

Love is patient; love is kind. Love does not envy, does not boast, is not arrogant,

is not rude, does not insist on its own way, is not irritable, keeps no record of wrongs.

Love does not rejoice in wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth.

It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away.

For we know only in part, and we prophesy only in part;

but when what is perfect comes, what is partial will pass away.

When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I set aside childish things.

For now we see only a dim reflection in a mirror, but then we will see face to face. Now I know in part; then I will know fully, even as I have been fully known.

So now faith, hope, and love remain—these three—but the greatest of these is love.
