And when I came to you, brothers, I did not come with lofty speech or wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony of God.

For I resolved to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ, and him crucified.

And I was with you in weakness, in fear, and in much trembling,

and my message and my preaching did not rest on persuasive words of wisdom, but on the demonstration of the Spirit and of power,

so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom but on the power of God.

Yet we do speak wisdom among the mature—though not the wisdom of this age, nor of the rulers of this age, who are being brought to nothing.

No, we speak God's wisdom, hidden in mystery, which God determined beforehand, before the ages, for our glory.

None of the rulers of this age understood it; for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.

But as it is written: "What no eye has seen and no ear has heard, what has never entered the human heart—all that God has prepared for those who love him."

To us God has revealed it through the Spirit, for the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God.

For what human being knows a person's thoughts except that person's own spirit within him? In the same way, no one comprehends the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.

And we have not received the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may know what God has freely given us.

This is what we speak—not in words taught by human wisdom, but in words taught by the Spirit, interpreting spiritual truths to those who have the Spirit.[^1] [^1]: Or "expressing spiritual truths in spiritual words"; the Greek phrase can be understood either way.

The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; he cannot understand them, because they are discerned spiritually.

The spiritual person, however, discerns all things, while he himself is subject to no one's judgment.

For "who has known the mind of the Lord, so as to instruct him?" But we have the mind of Christ.
