So then, let people regard us as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God.

Now what is required of stewards is that each one be found faithful.

But it matters very little to me whether I am judged by you or by any human court. In fact, I do not even judge myself.

My conscience holds nothing against me, but that does not make me innocent. It is the Lord who judges me.

So do not pronounce judgment before the time, before the Lord comes. He will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and expose the intentions of the heart, and then each one will receive his commendation from God.

Brothers, I have applied all this to myself and Apollos for your sake, so that through us you may learn what it means to keep to what is written, and none of you may be puffed up in favor of one against the other.

For who makes you any different? What do you have that you were not given? And if it was given to you, why do you boast as though it were not?

Already you have all you want! Already you have become rich! You have begun to reign without us! How I wish you really did reign, so that we might reign with you.

For it seems to me that God has put us apostles on display at the end of the procession, like men condemned to die. We have become a spectacle to the world, to angels and to men.

We are fools for Christ's sake, but you are wise in Christ. We are weak, but you are strong. You are held in honor, but we in contempt.

To this very hour we go hungry and thirsty, we are poorly clothed, we are beaten, we are homeless.

We wear ourselves out working with our own hands. When we are cursed, we bless; when we are persecuted, we endure it;

when we are slandered, we answer kindly. We have become the refuse of the world, the scum of all people, to this very day.

I am not writing this to shame you, but to admonish you as my beloved children.

For even if you had countless guardians in Christ, you do not have many fathers, for in Christ Jesus I became your father through the gospel.

So I urge you: imitate me.

That is why I sent you Timothy, my beloved and faithful child in the Lord. He will remind you of my ways in Christ Jesus, just as I teach them everywhere in every church.

Some of you have grown arrogant, as though I were not coming to you.

But I will come to you soon, if the Lord is willing, and then I will find out not what these arrogant people say, but what power they have.

For the kingdom of God is not a matter of talk but of power.

What do you want? Shall I come to you with a rod, or in love and with a gentle spirit?
