An oracle: The word of the LORD against the land of Hadrach, with Damascus as its resting place — for the LORD has his eye on humankind as on all the tribes of Israel —
and against Hamath as well, which borders it, and against Tyre and Sidon, however wise they may be.
Tyre has built herself a stronghold; she has heaped up silver like dust and gold like the mud of the streets.
But look, the Lord will dispossess her; he will hurl her wealth into the sea, and she herself will be devoured by fire.
Ashkelon will see it and be afraid; Gaza will writhe in anguish, and Ekron too, for her hope has withered away. The king will perish from Gaza, and Ashkelon will be left without inhabitants.
A people of mixed blood will settle in Ashdod, and I will cut off the pride of the Philistines.
I will take the blood out of their mouths and the detestable meat from between their teeth. Then they too will be a remnant for our God; they will be like a clan in Judah, and Ekron will be like the Jebusites.
I will encamp around my house as a guard, so that no one passes through or returns against it; no oppressor will overrun them again, for now I have seen it with my own eyes.
Rejoice greatly, daughter of Zion! Shout aloud, daughter of Jerusalem! Look, your king is coming to you: righteous and bringing salvation, humble and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.
I will cut off the chariot from Ephraim and the warhorse from Jerusalem; the battle bow will be broken. He will proclaim peace to the nations; his rule will stretch from sea to sea, and from the River to the ends of the earth.
As for you, because of the blood of my covenant with you, I will set your prisoners free from the waterless pit.
Return to your stronghold, you prisoners of hope. Today I declare it: I will restore to you double.
For I have bent Judah as my bow and fitted Ephraim as my arrow. I will rouse your sons, Zion, against your sons, Greece, and I will wield you like a warrior's sword.
Then the LORD will appear over them, and his arrow will flash out like lightning. The Lord GOD will sound the trumpet and advance in the storms of the south.
The LORD of hosts will shield them. They will devour and trample the sling stones underfoot; they will drink and roar as with wine, filled like a bowl, drenched like the corners of the altar.
On that day the LORD their God will save them, the flock that is his people; like jewels in a crown they will sparkle over his land.
How great his goodness, how great his beauty! Grain will make the young men flourish, and new wine the young women.
