I will stand at my post and station myself on the rampart; I will watch to see what he will say to me, and what answer I am to give concerning my complaint.
Then the LORD answered me: "Write down the vision; inscribe it plainly on tablets, so that the one who reads it may run.
For the vision awaits its appointed time; it testifies of the end and does not lie. Though it lingers, wait for it, for it will surely come and will not delay.
Look at the proud one: his soul is not upright within him. But the righteous shall live by his faith.
Indeed, wine betrays him; he is an arrogant man who knows no rest. His appetite is as wide as the grave; like death he is never satisfied. He gathers all the nations to himself and sweeps up all the peoples for himself.
Will not all of them taunt him with mockery and riddles, saying: 'Woe to him who piles up what is not his own! How long will he load himself with debt?'
Will not your creditors suddenly rise up? Will not those who make you tremble awake? Then you will become their plunder.
Because you have plundered many nations, the rest of the peoples will plunder you—for the blood you shed and the violence you did to the land, to the city and all who live in it.
Woe to him who piles up unjust gain for his house, who sets his nest on high to escape the reach of harm!
You have plotted shame for your own house by cutting off many peoples; you have forfeited your own life.
For the stone will cry out from the wall, and the beam will answer it from the woodwork.
Woe to him who builds a city with bloodshed and founds a town on injustice!
Is it not from the LORD of hosts that the peoples labor only for fire, that the nations exhaust themselves for nothing?
For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD as the waters cover the sea.
Woe to him who makes his neighbor drink, who pours out his wrath until they are drunk, so that he can gaze at their naked bodies!
You will be filled with shame instead of glory. Now you drink and expose yourself! The cup of the LORD's right hand is coming around to you, and disgrace will cover your glory.
For the violence you did to Lebanon will overwhelm you, and the destruction of its beasts will terrify you—for the blood you shed and the violence you did to the land, to the city and all who live in it.
What good is an idol, carved by human hands? What use is a cast image, a teacher of lies? For its maker trusts in his own handiwork, yet all he makes are speechless idols.
Woe to him who says to a piece of wood, "Wake up!" and to lifeless stone, "Arise!" Can it teach? See, it is overlaid with gold and silver, but there is no breath in it.
But the LORD is in his holy temple; let all the earth be silent before him.
