The sons of Levi: Gershom, Kohath, and Merari.
These are the names of the sons of Gershom: Libni and Shimei.
The sons of Kohath: Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel.
The sons of Merari: Mahli and Mushi. These are the clans of the Levites, listed by their fathers.
Of Gershom: Libni his son, Jahath his son, Zimmah his son,
Joah his son, Iddo his son, Zerah his son, Jeatherai his son.
The sons of Kohath: Amminadab his son, Korah his son, Assir his son,
Elkanah his son, Ebiasaph his son, Assir his son,
Tahath his son, Uriel his son, Uzziah his son, and Shaul his son.
The sons of Elkanah: Amasai and Ahimoth.
As for Elkanah, the sons of Elkanah were Zophai his son, Nahath his son,
Eliab his son, Jeroham his son, Elkanah his son.
The sons of Samuel: Joel the firstborn, and Abijah the second. [Footnote: The Hebrew here reads "the firstborn, Vashni, and Abijah"; the name Joel is supplied from other lists of Samuel's sons, and "Vashni" is understood as "and the second."]
The sons of Merari: Mahli, Libni his son, Shimei his son, Uzzah his son,
Shimea his son, Haggiah his son, Asaiah his son.
These are the men whom David put in charge of the music in the house of the LORD, after the ark came to rest there.
They ministered with music before the tabernacle, the tent of meeting, until Solomon built the house of the LORD in Jerusalem, and they carried out their service according to the order laid down for them.
These are the men who served, together with their sons. From the Kohathites: Heman the singer, the son of Joel, the son of Samuel,
the son of Elkanah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Eliel, the son of Toah,
the son of Zuph, the son of Elkanah, the son of Mahath, the son of Amasai,
the son of Elkanah, the son of Joel, the son of Azariah, the son of Zephaniah,
the son of Tahath, the son of Assir, the son of Ebiasaph, the son of Korah,
the son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, the son of Israel.
His brother Asaph, who stood at his right hand: Asaph the son of Berechiah, the son of Shimea,
the son of Michael, the son of Baaseiah, the son of Malchijah,
the son of Ethni, the son of Zerah, the son of Adaiah,
the son of Ethan, the son of Zimmah, the son of Shimei,
the son of Jahath, the son of Gershom, the son of Levi.
On the left stood their kinsmen, the sons of Merari: Ethan the son of Kishi, the son of Abdi, the son of Malluch,
the son of Hashabiah, the son of Amaziah, the son of Hilkiah,
the son of Amzi, the son of Bani, the son of Shemer,
the son of Mahli, the son of Mushi, the son of Merari, the son of Levi.
Their kinsmen the Levites were assigned to all the other service of the tabernacle, the house of God.
But Aaron and his sons made the offerings on the altar of burnt offering and on the altar of incense, doing all the work of the Most Holy Place and making atonement for Israel, according to all that Moses the servant of God had commanded.
These are the sons of Aaron: Eleazar his son, Phinehas his son, Abishua his son,
Bukki his son, Uzzi his son, Zerahiah his son,
Meraioth his son, Amariah his son, Ahitub his son,
Zadok his son, Ahimaaz his son.
These are their dwelling places, the settlements within their territories. To the sons of Aaron, of the clan of the Kohathites, since the lot fell to them,
they gave Hebron in the land of Judah, with the pasturelands around it.
But the open country of the city and its villages they gave to Caleb the son of Jephunneh.
To the sons of Aaron they gave the cities of refuge: Hebron, Libnah with its pasturelands, Jattir, Eshtemoa with its pasturelands,
Hilez with its pasturelands, Debir with its pasturelands,
Ashan with its pasturelands, and Beth-shemesh with its pasturelands.
From the tribe of Benjamin: Geba with its pasturelands, Alemeth with its pasturelands, and Anathoth with its pasturelands. In all, their cities numbered thirteen, distributed among their clans.
To the rest of the Kohathites were given by lot ten cities from the clans of the half-tribe of Manasseh.
To the sons of Gershom, clan by clan, were given thirteen cities from the tribe of Issachar, the tribe of Asher, the tribe of Naphtali, and the tribe of Manasseh in Bashan.
To the sons of Merari, clan by clan, were allotted twelve cities from the tribe of Reuben, the tribe of Gad, and the tribe of Zebulun.
So the Israelites gave the Levites these cities with their pasturelands.
From the tribes of Judah, Simeon, and Benjamin they assigned by lot the cities named above.
Some of the clans of the Kohathites received the cities of their territory from the tribe of Ephraim.
They were given the cities of refuge: Shechem with its pasturelands in the hill country of Ephraim, Gezer with its pasturelands,
Jokmeam with its pasturelands, Beth-horon with its pasturelands,
Aijalon with its pasturelands, and Gath-rimmon with its pasturelands.
From the half-tribe of Manasseh: Aner with its pasturelands and Bileam with its pasturelands—these for the rest of the clans of the Kohathites.
To the sons of Gershom were given, from the clan of the half-tribe of Manasseh: Golan in Bashan with its pasturelands and Ashtaroth with its pasturelands;
from the tribe of Issachar: Kedesh with its pasturelands, Daberath with its pasturelands,
Ramoth with its pasturelands, and Anem with its pasturelands;
from the tribe of Asher: Mashal with its pasturelands, Abdon with its pasturelands,
Hukok with its pasturelands, and Rehob with its pasturelands;
and from the tribe of Naphtali: Kedesh in Galilee with its pasturelands, Hammon with its pasturelands, and Kiriathaim with its pasturelands.
To the rest of the Merarites were given, from the tribe of Zebulun: Rimmono with its pasturelands and Tabor with its pasturelands;
and beyond the Jordan at Jericho, on the east side of the Jordan, from the tribe of Reuben: Bezer in the wilderness with its pasturelands, Jahzah with its pasturelands,
Kedemoth with its pasturelands, and Mephaath with its pasturelands;
and from the tribe of Gad: Ramoth in Gilead with its pasturelands, Mahanaim with its pasturelands,
Heshbon with its pasturelands, and Jazer with its pasturelands.
