God's Faithfulness
God's faithfulness is the anchor of our faith. He keeps His promises, never fails, and does not change. Throughout the Bible we see that even when people fail, God remains faithful. His grace is new every morning.
Faithful from Generation to Generation
God's faithfulness extends through all generations.
5For the LORD is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations.
כִּי־ט֣וֹב יְ֭הֹוָה לְעוֹלָ֣ם חַסְדּ֑וֹ וְעַד־דֹּ֥ר וָ֝דֹ֗ר אֱמוּנָתֽוֹ׃
90Your faithfulness endures through all generations; you established the earth, and it stands.
לְדֹ֣ר וָ֭דֹר אֱמֽוּנָתֶ֑ךָ כּוֹנַ֥נְתָּ אֶ֝֗רֶץ וַֽתַּעֲמֹֽד׃
22The LORD's acts of mercy never cease; his compassions never come to an end.
חַֽסְדֵ֤י יְהוָה֙ כִּ֣י לֹא־תָ֔מְנוּ כִּ֥י לֹא־כָל֖וּ רַחֲמָֽיו׃
23They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
חֲדָשִׁים֙ לַבְּקָרִ֔ים רַבָּ֖ה אֱמוּנָתֶֽךָ׃
He Keeps His Promises
Not one word of God's promises falls to the ground.
43So the LORD gave Israel all the land he had sworn to give their fathers, and they took possession of it and settled there.
וַיִ[t]תֵּ֤ן יְהוָה֙ לְיִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל אֶת־כָּ֨[c]ל־הָאָ֔רֶץ אֲשֶׁ֥ר נִשְׁבַּ֖ע לָתֵ֣ת לַאֲבוֹתָ֑ם וַיִּרָשׁ֖וּהָ וַיֵּ֥שְׁבוּ בָֽהּ׃
45Not one word failed of all the good things the LORD had promised the house of Israel; every one of them came true.
לֹֽא־נָפַ֣ל דָּבָ֔ר מִכֹּל֙ הַדָּבָ֣ר הַטּ֔וֹב אֲשֶׁר־דִּבֶּ֥ר יְהוָ֖ה אֶל־בֵּ֣ית יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל הַכֹּ֖ל בָּֽא׃ פ
14Now today I am going the way of all the earth. You know with all your heart and all your soul that not one of all the good promises the LORD your God made concerning you has failed. Every one has come true; not one of them has failed.
וְהִנֵּ֨ה אָנֹכִ֤י הוֹלֵךְ֙ הַיּ֔וֹם בְּדֶ֖רֶךְ כָּל־הָאָ֑רֶץ וִידַעְתֶּ֞ם בְּכָל־לְבַבְכֶ֣ם וּבְכָל־נַפְשְׁכֶ֗ם כִּ֣י לֹֽא־נָפַל֩ דָּבָ֨ר אֶחָ֜ד מִכֹּ֣ל ׀ הַדְּבָרִ֣ים הַטּוֹבִ֗ים אֲשֶׁ֨ר דִּבֶּ֜ר יְהוָ֤ה אֱלֹהֵיכֶם֙ עֲלֵיכֶ֔ם הַכֹּל֙ בָּ֣אוּ לָכֶ֔ם לֹֽא־נָפַ֥ל מִמֶּ֖נּוּ דָּבָ֥ר אֶחָֽד׃
20For all the promises of God find their "Yes" in him. And so through him we speak our "Amen" to the glory of God.
ὅσαι γὰρ ἐπαγγελίαι θεοῦ, ἐν αὐτῷ τὸ Ναί· ⸀διὸ καὶ ⸂διʼ αὐτοῦ⸃ τὸ Ἀμὴν τῷ θεῷ πρὸς δόξαν διʼ ἡμῶν.
Faithful Even When We Fail
Even if we are unfaithful, God remains faithful.
11This saying is trustworthy: If we died with him, we will also live with him;
πιστὸς ὁ λόγος· εἰ γὰρ συναπεθάνομεν, καὶ συζήσομεν·
12if we endure, we will also reign with him; if we deny him, he will also deny us;
εἰ ὑπομένομεν, καὶ συμβασιλεύσομεν· εἰ ⸀ἀρνησόμεθα, κἀκεῖνος ἀρνήσεται ἡμᾶς·
13if we are faithless, he remains faithful — for he cannot deny himself.
εἰ ἀπιστοῦμεν, ἐκεῖνος πιστὸς μένει· ⸀ἀρνήσασθαι ἑαυτὸν οὐ δύναται.
3What if some were unfaithful? Will their unfaithfulness cancel God's faithfulness?
τί γάρ; εἰ ἠπίστησάν τινες, μὴ ἡ ἀπιστία αὐτῶν τὴν πίστιν τοῦ θεοῦ καταργήσει;
4By no means! Let God be true and every human being a liar, as it is written: "So that you may be shown righteous in your words and prevail when you are judged."
μὴ γένοιτο· γινέσθω δὲ ὁ θεὸς ἀληθής, πᾶς δὲ ἄνθρωπος ψεύστης, ⸀καθὼς γέγραπται· Ὅπως ἂν δικαιωθῇς ἐν τοῖς λόγοις σου καὶ ⸀νικήσεις ἐν τῷ κρίνεσθαί σε.
2I will sing of the LORD's steadfast love forever; with my mouth I will make your faithfulness known to every generation.
חַֽסְדֵ֣י יְ֭הוָה עוֹלָ֣ם אָשִׁ֑ירָה לְדֹ֥ר וָדֹ֓ר ׀ אוֹדִ֖יעַ אֱמוּנָתְךָ֣ בְּפִֽי׃
33I will punish their rebellion with the rod and their guilt with blows;
וּפָקַדְתִּ֣י בְשֵׁ֣בֶט פִּשְׁעָ֑ם וּבִנְגָעִ֥ים עֲוֺנָֽם׃
34but I will not withdraw my love from him, nor will I betray my faithfulness.
וְ֭חַסְדִּי לֹֽא־אָפִ֣יר מֵֽעִמּ֑וֹ וְלֹֽא־אֲ֝שַׁקֵּ֗ר בֶּאֱמוּנָתִֽי׃
Faithful in Trials
God is faithful and will not let us be tempted beyond what we can bear.
13No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to humanity. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear, but with the temptation he will also provide a way out, so that you can endure it.
πειρασμὸς ὑμᾶς οὐκ εἴληφεν εἰ μὴ ἀνθρώπινος· πιστὸς δὲ ὁ θεός, ὃς οὐκ ἐάσει ὑμᾶς πειρασθῆναι ὑπὲρ ὃ δύνασθε, ἀλλὰ ποιήσει σὺν τῷ πειρασμῷ καὶ τὴν ἔκβασιν τοῦ ⸀δύνασθαι ὑπενεγκεῖν.
24The one who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it.
πιστὸς ὁ καλῶν ὑμᾶς, ὃς καὶ ποιήσει.
23Let us hold unwaveringly to the confession of our hope, for he who promised is faithful.
κατέχωμεν τὴν ὁμολογίαν τῆς ἐλπίδος ἀκλινῆ, πιστὸς γὰρ ὁ ἐπαγγειλάμενος·
Praise His Faithfulness
The Psalms are full of praise for God's faithfulness.
6LORD, your mercy reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the clouds.
יְ֭הוָה בְּהַשָּׁמַ֣יִם חַסְדֶּ֑ךָ אֱ֝מֽוּנָתְךָ֗ עַד־שְׁחָקִֽים׃
7Your righteousness is like the highest mountains, your judgments like the great deep. You save both man and beast, O LORD.
צִדְקָֽתְךָ֨ ׀ כְּֽהַרְרֵי־אֵ֗ל מִ֭שְׁפָּטֶךָ תְּה֣וֹם רַבָּ֑ה אָ֤דָֽם־וּבְהֵמָ֖ה תוֹשִׁ֣יעַ יְהוָֽה׃
10I will praise you among the peoples, O Lord; I will sing your praise among the nations.
אוֹדְךָ֖ בָעַמִּ֥ים ׀ אֲדֹנָ֑י אֲ֝זַמֶּרְךָ֗ בַּל־אֻמִּֽים׃
11For your steadfast love is great to the heavens, your faithfulness to the clouds.
כִּֽי־גָדֹ֣ל עַד־שָׁמַ֣יִם חַסְדֶּ֑ךָ וְֽעַד־שְׁחָקִ֥ים אֲמִתֶּֽךָ׃
2It is good to give thanks to the LORD, to sing praise to your name, O Most High,
ט֗וֹב לְהֹד֥וֹת לַיהוָ֑ה וּלְזַמֵּ֖ר לְשִׁמְךָ֣ עֶלְיֽוֹן׃
3to declare your steadfast love in the morning and your faithfulness through the nights,
לְהַגִּ֣יד בַּבֹּ֣קֶר חַסְֽדֶּ֑ךָ וֶ֝אֱמֽוּנָתְךָ֗ בַּלֵּילֽוֹת׃
