After this I heard what sounded like the loud voice of a great multitude in heaven, crying: "Hallelujah! Salvation and glory and power belong to our God,

for his judgments are true and just. He has judged the great prostitute who corrupted the earth with her immorality, and he has avenged on her the blood of his servants."

And again they cried: "Hallelujah! The smoke from her goes up forever and ever."

Then the twenty-four elders and the four living creatures fell down and worshiped God, who is seated on the throne, saying: "Amen. Hallelujah!"

And a voice went out from the throne, saying: "Praise our God, all you his servants, and all who fear him, both small and great!"

Then I heard what sounded like the voice of a great multitude, like the roar of many waters and like the crash of mighty thunder, crying: "Hallelujah! For the Lord our God, the Almighty, reigns.

Let us rejoice and be glad and give him the glory, for the wedding of the Lamb has come, and his bride has made herself ready.

She was given fine linen to wear, bright and clean" — for the fine linen is the righteous deeds of the saints.

Then he said to me, "Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding feast of the Lamb." And he added, "These are the true words of God."

I fell at his feet to worship him, but he said to me, "Don't do that! I am a fellow servant with you and your brothers who hold to the testimony of Jesus. Worship God! For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy."

Then I saw heaven standing open, and there before me was a white horse. Its rider is called Faithful and True, and with justice he judges and wages war.

His eyes are a flame of fire, and on his head are many crowns. He has a name written on him that no one knows but he himself.

He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is called the Word of God.

The armies of heaven followed him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and clean.

Out of his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations, and he will rule them with an iron rod. He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty.

On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written: King of kings and Lord of lords.

Then I saw an angel standing in the sun, who cried out in a loud voice to all the birds flying high overhead, "Come, gather for the great supper of God,

to eat the flesh of kings, the flesh of commanders, the flesh of the mighty, the flesh of horses and their riders, and the flesh of all people, free and slave, small and great."

Then I saw the beast and the kings of the earth with their armies gathered to wage war against the rider on the horse and against his army.

But the beast was captured, and with it the false prophet who had performed the signs in its presence, by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and worshiped its image. The two of them were thrown alive into the lake of fire burning with sulfur.

The rest were killed by the sword that came from the mouth of the rider on the horse, and all the birds gorged themselves on their flesh.

The word is a direct transliteration of the Hebrew הַלְלוּ יָהּ ("Praise Yah") and was central to Jewish temple liturgy, especially in the so-called Hallel psalms (Psalm 113–118 and 146–150). For the original readers, this would immediately signal a heavenly worship service reflecting the Jewish tradition of praise.

The marriage supper of the Lamb (ὁ γάμος τοῦ ἀρνίου) in verses 7–9 draws on rich background from both Jewish and Greco-Roman culture. In the Old Testament, the relationship between God and Israel is repeatedly portrayed as a marriage (Hosea 2; Isaiah 54:5–6; Jeremiah 2:2).
