36While they were still talking about this, Jesus himself stood among them.[^ Some manuscripts add: and said to them, "Peace be with you."]

37They were startled and terrified, thinking they were seeing a ghost.

38He said to them: "Why are you troubled, and why do doubts rise in your hearts?

39Look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself. Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see that I have."

40When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his feet.

41And while they still did not believe it for joy and were amazed, he asked them, "Do you have anything here to eat?"

42They gave him a piece of broiled fish,

43and he took it and ate it in their presence.

44He said to them: "This is what I told you while I was still with you—that everything written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets, and the Psalms must be fulfilled."

45Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures.

46He said to them: "This is what is written: the Christ will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day,

47and repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

48You are witnesses of these things.

49And behold, I am sending upon you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high."

19That evening, on the first day of the week, the disciples were together behind locked doors for fear of the Jewish leaders. Jesus came and stood among them and said, "Peace be with you."

20After saying this, he showed them his hands and his side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord.

21Again Jesus said to them, "Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I am sending you."

22And with that he breathed on them and said, "Receive the Holy Spirit.

23If you forgive anyone's sins, they are forgiven; if you withhold forgiveness, it is withheld."

9And suddenly Jesus met them. "Greetings," he said. They came to him, took hold of his feet, and worshiped him.

10Then Jesus said to them, "Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me."

11But Mary stood outside the tomb, weeping. As she wept, she bent down to look inside,

12and she saw two angels in white sitting there, one at the head and one at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain.

13"Woman, why are you weeping?" they asked her. "They have taken away my Lord," she said, "and I don't know where they have put him."

14With that she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not know it was Jesus.

15"Woman, why are you weeping?" Jesus said to her. "Who is it you are looking for?" Thinking he was the gardener, she said, "Sir, if you have carried him off, tell me where you have put him, and I will take him away."

16Jesus said to her, "Mary." She turned to him and said in Aramaic, "Rabboni!"—which means Teacher.

17Jesus said to her, "Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. But go to my brothers and tell them, 'I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.'"

18Mary Magdalene went and announced to the disciples, "I have seen the Lord!" And she told them that he had said these things to her.

1After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb.

2Suddenly there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven, went up, rolled away the stone, and sat on it.

3His appearance was like lightning, and his clothing was white as snow.

4The guards were so terrified of him that they shook and became like dead men.

5But the angel said to the women, "Do not be afraid. I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified.

6He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay.

7Now go quickly and tell his disciples, 'He has risen from the dead, and he is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.' Remember, I have told you."

8So they hurried away from the tomb, filled with fear and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples.

1When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices so they could go and anoint him.

2Very early on the first day of the week, just after sunrise, they came to the tomb.

3They were saying to one another, "Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance of the tomb?"

4But when they looked up, they saw that the stone had been rolled back—and it was enormous.

5Entering the tomb, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, dressed in a white robe, and they were alarmed.

6But he said to them, "Do not be alarmed. You are looking for Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has risen; he is not here. Look, this is the place where they laid him.

7But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he is going ahead of you to Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you."

8So they went out and fled from the tomb, trembling and beside themselves. And they said nothing to anyone, for they were afraid. ⟦But they briefly reported to Peter and those with him everything they had been told. And afterward Jesus himself sent out through them, from east to west, the sacred and imperishable proclamation of eternal salvation. Amen.⟧

1On the first day of the week, at early dawn, the women came to the tomb bringing the spices they had prepared.

2They found the stone rolled away from the tomb,

3but when they went in, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.

4While they stood there bewildered, two men in dazzling clothes suddenly stood beside them.

5The women were terrified and bowed their faces to the ground, but the men said to them: "Why do you look for the living among the dead?

6He is not here; he has risen. Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee,

7that the Son of Man must be handed over to sinful men, be crucified, and rise again on the third day."

8Then they remembered his words.

9And returning from the tomb, they reported all this to the Eleven and to all the rest.

10It was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the other women with them who told this to the apostles.

11But these words seemed to them like nonsense, and they did not believe the women.

12Peter, however, got up and ran to the tomb. Stooping down, he saw only the linen cloths, and he went home, amazed at what had happened.

Now Thomas, one of the Twelve, called the Twin, was not with them when Jesus came.

Eight days later his disciples were together again indoors, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, "Peace be with you."
Then he said to Thomas, "Put your finger here; look at my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe."
Thomas answered him, "My Lord and my God!"
Jesus said to him, "Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed."
Jesus did many other signs in the presence of his disciples that are not recorded in this book.
But these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.
