A song of ascents. When the LORD restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dream.[^1] [^1]: Or "When the LORD brought back the captives to Zion." The Hebrew phrase can mean either a reversal of fortune or a return from exile.
Then our mouths were filled with laughter, and our tongues with shouts of joy. Then it was said among the nations, "The LORD has done great things for them."
The LORD has done great things for us, and we are glad.
Restore our fortunes, O LORD, like streams in the desert.
Those who sow in tears will reap with shouts of joy.
Whoever goes out weeping, carrying seed to sow, will come home with shouts of joy, carrying the sheaves.
