Do not be rash with your mouth, and do not let your heart hurry to bring out a word before God. For God is in heaven and you are on earth; therefore let your words be few.

For a dream comes with much business, and a fool's voice with many words.

When you make a vow to God, do not delay in fulfilling it, for he takes no pleasure in fools. Pay what you vow.

Better not to vow at all than to vow and not fulfill it.

Do not let your mouth lead you into sin, and do not say to the messenger, "It was a mistake." Why should God be angry at your voice and destroy the work of your hands?

For in many dreams and many words there is much emptiness. So fear God.

If you see the poor oppressed in a province, and justice and right torn away, do not be astonished at the matter; for one official is watched by a higher one, and over them all are higher ones still.

And the profit of a land is in every way this: a king devoted to the cultivated field.

Whoever loves money is never satisfied with money, and whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with income. This too is vanity.

When goods increase, so do those who eat them. And what gain has the owner, except to look at them with his eyes?

Sweet is the sleep of the laborer, whether he eats little or much, but the abundance of the rich man will not let him sleep.

There is a grievous evil I have seen under the sun: riches hoarded by their owner to his own hurt.

Those riches were lost in a bad venture, and the son he fathered was left with nothing in his hand.

As he came from his mother's womb, so he goes again, naked as he came; and he can carry nothing away from his toil that he may take in his hand.

This too is a grievous evil: just as he came, so he goes. What gain does he have, having toiled for the wind?

All his days he eats in darkness, with much frustration, sickness, and anger.

This is what I have seen to be good: that a man should eat and drink and find enjoyment in all his toil under the sun during the few days of life God has given him, for this is his portion.

Moreover, when God gives someone riches and possessions, and lets him enjoy them, take his portion, and find joy in his toil—this is a gift of God.

For he will hardly think about the days of his life, because God keeps him occupied with the gladness of his heart.
