The sin of Judah is written with an iron stylus, engraved with a diamond point on the tablet of their heart and on the horns of your altars,
while their children remember their altars and their Asherah poles beside a green tree, on the high hills.
My mountain in the open country: your wealth and all your treasures I will hand over as plunder, along with your high places, because of the sin committed throughout your territory.
By your own doing you will let go of the inheritance I gave you, and I will make you serve your enemies in a land you do not know, for you have kindled a fire in my anger that will burn forever.
This is what the LORD says: Cursed is the one who trusts in man, who makes flesh his strength and whose heart turns away from the LORD.
He will be like a shrub in the wasteland; he will not see when good comes. He will live in the parched places of the desert, in a salt land where no one dwells.
Blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in him.
He will be like a tree planted by water, sending out its roots toward the stream. It has no fear when the heat comes; its leaves stay green. It is not anxious in a year of drought, and it never stops bearing fruit.
The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?
I, the LORD, search the heart and test the mind, to reward each person according to his ways, according to what his deeds deserve.
Like a partridge that hatches eggs it did not lay is the one who gains riches unjustly. In the middle of his days they will desert him, and in the end he will prove to be a fool.
A glorious throne, exalted from the beginning, is the place of our sanctuary.
LORD, hope of Israel, all who forsake you will be put to shame. Those who turn away from you will be written in the dust, for they have abandoned the LORD, the spring of living water.
Heal me, LORD, and I will be healed; save me, and I will be saved, for you are my praise.
Look, they keep saying to me, "Where is the word of the LORD? Let it come now!"
But I have not run away from being a shepherd in your service, nor have I longed for the day of disaster. You know it: whatever came from my lips was there before your face.
Do not become a terror to me; you are my refuge in the day of trouble.
Let my persecutors be put to shame, but do not let me be put to shame. Let them be terrified, but do not let me be terrified. Bring on them the day of disaster; destroy them with double destruction.
This is what the LORD said to me: Go and stand in the People's Gate, where the kings of Judah enter and leave, and in all the gates of Jerusalem,
and say to them: Hear the word of the LORD, you kings of Judah and all Judah and all who live in Jerusalem and come through these gates.
This is what the LORD says: Guard your lives, and do not carry a load on the Sabbath day or bring it through the gates of Jerusalem.
Do not carry a load out of your houses on the Sabbath day or do any work, but keep the Sabbath day holy, as I commanded your fathers.
Yet they did not listen or pay attention; they stiffened their necks so that they would not hear or accept correction.
But if you listen carefully to me, declares the LORD, and bring no load through the gates of this city on the Sabbath day, but keep the Sabbath day holy by doing no work on it,
then kings and princes who sit on David's throne will come through the gates of this city, riding in chariots and on horses, they and their officials, the people of Judah and those who live in Jerusalem; and this city will be inhabited forever.
People will come from the towns of Judah and the places around Jerusalem, from the territory of Benjamin, from the foothills, the hill country, and the Negev, bringing burnt offerings and sacrifices, grain offerings and incense, and bringing thank offerings to the house of the LORD.
But if you do not listen to me, to keep the Sabbath day holy, and if you carry a load and come through the gates of Jerusalem on the Sabbath day, then I will set fire to its gates, and the fire will consume the fortresses of Jerusalem and will not be quenched.
