Simeon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who have received a faith as precious as ours through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ:

May grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.

His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and excellence.

Through these he has given us his precious and magnificent promises, so that through them you may share in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through its cravings.

For this very reason, make every effort to add excellence to your faith; and to excellence, knowledge;

and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, endurance; and to endurance, godliness;

and to godliness, brotherly affection; and to brotherly affection, love.

For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they will keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

But whoever lacks them is blind and shortsighted, having forgotten the cleansing from his former sins.

So then, brothers, be all the more eager to confirm your calling and election, for if you do these things you will never stumble.

And in this way you will be richly granted entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Therefore I will always keep reminding you of these things, even though you know them and stand firm in the truth you now have.

I think it right, as long as I live in this tent, to stir you up by way of reminder,

since I know that the laying aside of my tent will come soon, as our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me.

And I will make every effort to see that after my departure you will always be able to remember these things.

For we did not follow cleverly invented myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.

For he received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice came to him from the Majestic Glory: "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased."

We ourselves heard this voice come from heaven while we were with him on the holy mountain.

So we have the prophetic word made all the more certain, and you do well to pay attention to it, as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.

Above all, understand this: no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone's own interpretation.

For no prophecy ever came by human will; rather, people spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
