For the choirmaster. To the tune of "Death of the Son." A psalm of David.

I will thank the LORD with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonders.

I will be glad and rejoice in you; I will sing praise to your name, Most High.

When my enemies turn back, they stumble and perish before you.

For you have upheld my right and my cause; you have taken your seat on the throne, a righteous judge.

You have rebuked the nations and destroyed the wicked; you have blotted out their name forever and ever.

The enemy is finished—ruins forever; you have torn down their cities, and the very memory of them has perished.

But the LORD is enthroned forever; he has established his throne for judgment.

He will judge the world in righteousness; he will govern the peoples with justice.

The LORD is a stronghold for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble.

Those who know your name trust in you, for you have never forsaken those who seek you, LORD.

Sing praise to the LORD, who dwells in Zion; proclaim among the peoples what he has done.

For he who avenges bloodshed remembers them; he does not forget the cry of the afflicted.

Have mercy on me, LORD; see my affliction at the hands of those who hate me—you who lift me up from the gates of death,

that I may tell of all your praises in the gates of the daughter of Zion, and rejoice in your salvation.

The nations have sunk into the pit they dug; their feet are caught in the net they hid.

The LORD has made himself known; he has executed judgment. The wicked are ensnared by the work of their own hands. Higgaion. Selah.

The wicked will return to the grave, all the nations that forget God.

But the needy will not be forgotten forever, nor will the hope of the afflicted perish for all time.

Rise up, LORD! Do not let mortals prevail; let the nations be judged in your presence.

Strike them with terror, LORD; let the nations know that they are only mortal. Selah. [Footnote: The Hebrew word rendered 'terror' may also be read as 'teacher'; some understand the line as 'appoint a teacher for them.']
