And now, you priests, this command is for you:
If you will not listen, if you will not take it to heart and give honor to my name, says the LORD of hosts, then I will send the curse upon you, and I will curse your blessings—indeed, I have already cursed them, because you take nothing to heart.
Look, I will rebuke your offspring, and I will fling dung in your faces, the dung of your festival offerings, and you will be carried off with it.
Then you will know that I sent this command to you, so that my covenant with Levi might stand, says the LORD of hosts.
My covenant with him was life and peace; these I gave him, and with them a holy fear, so that he revered me and stood in awe of my name.
True instruction was in his mouth, and no wrong was found on his lips. He walked with me in peace and uprightness, and he turned many away from sin.
For the lips of a priest should guard knowledge, and people should seek instruction from his mouth, for he is the messenger of the LORD of hosts.
But you have turned aside from the way. By your instruction you have made many stumble; you have corrupted the covenant of Levi, says the LORD of hosts.
So I in turn have made you despised and humiliated before all the people, because you have not kept my ways but have shown partiality in matters of instruction.
Do we not all have one Father? Did not one God create us? Why then are we faithless to one another, profaning the covenant of our fathers?
Judah has been faithless; an abomination has been committed in Israel and in Jerusalem. Judah has profaned the sanctuary the LORD loves, and has married the daughter of a foreign god.
May the LORD cut off from the tents of Jacob the man who does this—whoever he may be—even though he brings an offering to the LORD of hosts.
And here is something else you do: you drown the LORD's altar in tears, weeping and groaning, because he no longer regards your offering or accepts it with favor from your hand.
You ask, "Why?" Because the LORD stands as witness between you and the wife of your youth, to whom you have been faithless, though she is your companion, the wife of your covenant.
Did he not make them one, with a portion of the spirit of life in their union? And what does the One seek? Godly offspring. So guard yourselves in your spirit, and let no one be faithless to the wife of his youth.
For I hate divorce, says the LORD, the God of Israel, and I hate the one who covers his garment with violence, says the LORD of hosts. So guard yourselves in your spirit and do not be faithless.
You have wearied the LORD with your words. And you ask, "How have we wearied him?" By saying, "Everyone who does evil is good in the LORD's eyes, and in such people he delights"—or, "Where is the God of justice?"
