Standardausgabe In the days of Ahaz son of Jotham, son of Uzziah, king of Judah, Rezin king of Aram and Pekah son of Remaliah king of Israel marched up against Jerusalem to make war on it, but they could not prevail against it.
In the days of Ahaz son of Jotham, son of Uzziah, king of Judah, Rezin king of Aram and Pekah son of Remaliah king of Israel marched up against Jerusalem to make war on it, but they could not overpower it. The Hebrew verb is לְהִלָּחֵם ("to fight/wage war against"), echoing לַמִּלְחָמָה earlier in the verse. "Overpower" introduces an idea of capture not present in the wording; "prevail against" keeps the military sense and preserves the deliberate repetition, which also reads well aloud.
2 When word came to the house of David, "Aram has joined forces with Ephraim," the heart of the king and the heart of his people shook like the trees of the forest before the wind. Urtext Verweise Themen Notizen Manuskripte

Then the LORD said to Isaiah, "Go out to meet Ahaz, you and your son Shear-Jashub, at the end of the aqueduct of the Upper Pool, on the road to the Launderer's Field, The name is symbolic and central to the chapter's message. A footnote would help the listener: *Shear-Jashub means "a remnant will return." No content change is needed to the verse itself.
