Do not envy evil people, and do not crave their company;

for their hearts plot violence, and their lips speak of trouble.

By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established;

by knowledge its rooms are filled with every precious and pleasing treasure.

A wise man is mighty in strength; a man of knowledge increases his power.

For with guidance you wage your war, and victory comes through many counselors.

Wisdom is too high for a fool; at the gate he has nothing to say.

Whoever plots to do evil will be called a master of schemes.

A fool's schemes are sin, and a mocker is detestable to people.

If you falter in the day of trouble, how small your strength is!

Rescue those being led away to death; hold back those stumbling toward slaughter.

If you say, "But we knew nothing about this"—does not the one who weighs hearts perceive it? Does not the one who guards your life know it? Will he not repay each person according to what he has done?

Eat honey, my son, for it is good; honey from the comb is sweet to your taste.

In the same way, know wisdom for your soul: if you find it, there is a future, and your hope will not be cut off.

Do not lie in wait, you wicked one, against the home of the righteous; do not raid the place where he rests.

For though the righteous falls seven times, he rises again, but the wicked stumble into disaster.

Do not rejoice when your enemy falls, and do not let your heart be glad when he stumbles,

or the LORD will see it and be displeased, and turn his anger away from your enemy.

Do not fret because of evildoers, and do not envy the wicked;

for the evil man has no future, and the lamp of the wicked will be snuffed out.

Fear the LORD, my son, and the king; do not join with those who defy them,

for their ruin will rise up suddenly, and who knows what disaster the two of them can bring?

These also are sayings of the wise: Showing partiality in judgment is not good.

Whoever says to the guilty, "You are innocent," will be cursed by peoples and denounced by nations.

But it will go well with those who convict the guilty, and rich blessing will come upon them.

An honest answer is like a kiss on the lips.

Prepare your work outside and get your field ready; after that, build your house.

Do not testify against your neighbor without cause, or use your lips to deceive.

Do not say, "I will do to him as he did to me; I will pay him back for what he did."

I passed by the field of a sluggard, by the vineyard of a man without sense,

and there it was, all overgrown with thistles, the ground covered with weeds, and its stone wall broken down.

I looked and took it to heart; I saw and learned a lesson:

a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest—

and poverty will come on you like a prowler, and want like an armed man.

The expression "to show partiality" (הַכֵּר־פָּנִים) in verse 23 refers to bias in legal cases, which was strictly forbidden under Israelite law (cf. Deut 1:17).
