Do you rulers really speak justice? Do you judge people with fairness?<f>The Hebrew word rendered "rulers" is uncertain; it may also mean "gods" (mighty ones) or "in silence."</f>
No—in your hearts you plot injustice, and your hands deal out violence in the land.
The wicked go astray from the womb; from birth they wander, speaking lies.
Their venom is like the venom of a snake, like a deaf cobra that stops up its ear,
that will not listen to the voice of the charmers, however skilled the enchanter may be.
O God, break the teeth in their mouths; tear out the fangs of the young lions, O LORD!
Let them vanish like water that drains away; when they aim their arrows, let them fall blunted.
Let them be like a slug that dissolves as it moves, like a stillborn child that never sees the sun.
Before your pots can feel the burning thorns, God will sweep the wicked away, green wood and blazing alike.
The righteous will rejoice when they see vengeance done; they will bathe their feet in the blood of the wicked.
Then people will say, "Surely there is a reward for the righteous; surely there is a God who judges on the earth."
