Versión predeterminada in the first year of his reign, I, Daniel, understood from the books the number of years that must pass before the desolations of Jerusalem would be completed—seventy years, as the word of the LORD had come to Jeremiah the prophet.
in the first year of his reign, I, Daniel, understood from the books the number of years that, according to the word of the LORD to Jeremiah the prophet, must pass before the desolation of Jerusalem would end—seventy years. The present sentence buries the main clause inside a long parenthetical insertion ('that, according to the word ... must pass'), which is hard to follow when read aloud. Recasting it puts the count of years and the number together and lets the reference to Jeremiah come as a closing clause. It also restores the Hebrew plural חָרְבוֹת ('desolations') and the sense of לְמַלֹּאות ('to be completed').

Seventy weeks are decreed for your people and your holy city: to finish transgression, to put an end to sin, to atone for guilt, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal up vision and prophecy, and to anoint the Most Holy. קֹדֶשׁ קָדָשִׁים without the article most commonly denotes the most holy place/sanctuary; a footnote noting the alternative reading ('a most holy one') would help readers, since 'the Most Holy' presumes a specific interpretation.
