The word of the LORD that came to Micah of Moresheth in the days of Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah — what he saw concerning Samaria and Jerusalem.
Hear, all you peoples; listen, O earth, and all that fills it. Let the Lord GOD be a witness against you, the Lord from his holy temple.
Look — the LORD is coming out from his place; he comes down and treads on the high places of the earth.
The mountains melt beneath him and the valleys split open, like wax before the fire, like water poured down a slope.
All this is for the transgression of Jacob, for the sins of the house of Israel. What is the transgression of Jacob? Is it not Samaria? And what are the high places of Judah? Are they not Jerusalem?
So I will make Samaria a heap of rubble in the open field, a place for planting vineyards. I will pour her stones into the valley and lay bare her foundations.
All her carved images will be shattered, all her wages burned in the fire; I will make all her idols a wasteland. She gathered them from the wages of a prostitute, and to the wages of a prostitute they shall return.
For this I will lament and wail; I will go stripped and naked. I will howl like the jackals and mourn like the ostriches.
For her wounds are incurable; the blow has come to Judah, reaching the gate of my people, all the way to Jerusalem.
Tell it not in Gath; do not weep at all. In Beth-leaphrah, house of dust, roll yourself in the dust.
Pass on your way, you who live in Shaphir, in naked shame. Those who live in Zaanan do not come out. Beth-ezel is in mourning; its support is taken from you.
The people of Maroth writhe in hope of good, for disaster has come down from the LORD to the gate of Jerusalem.
Harness the horses to the chariot, you who live in Lachish. You were the beginning of sin for Daughter Zion, for in you the transgressions of Israel were found.
Therefore you shall give parting gifts to Moresheth-gath. The houses of Achzib will prove a deception to the kings of Israel.
I will yet bring a conqueror against you, you who live in Mareshah. The glory of Israel will come as far as Adullam.
Shave your head and cut off your hair for the children who were your delight; make yourself as bald as the vulture, for they have gone from you into exile.
