JudgesChapter 5

Hear this, you kings; listen, you rulers! I will sing to the LORD, I myself will sing; I will make music to the LORD, the God of Israel.
LORD, when you went out from Seir, when you marched from the fields of Edom, the earth shook, the heavens poured, the clouds poured down water.
The mountains melted before the LORD, even Sinai, before the LORD, the God of Israel.
In the days of Shamgar son of Anath, in the days of Jael, the highways lay empty, and travelers kept to the winding trails.
They chose new gods; then war came to the gates. Was a shield to be seen, or a spear, among forty thousand in Israel?
To the sound of singing at the watering places, there they recount the righteous deeds of the LORD, the righteous deeds of his villagers in Israel. Then the people of the LORD marched down to the gates.
Then those who were left came down against the nobles; the people of the LORD came down for me against the mighty.
From Ephraim they came, whose roots are in Amalek; behind you, Benjamin, with your kinsmen. From Machir the commanders came down, and from Zebulun those who bear the marshal's staff.
The princes of Issachar were with Deborah; Issachar followed Barak, rushing into the valley at his heels. But among the clans of Reuben there was deep searching of heart.
Why did you linger among the sheepfolds, listening to the whistling for the flocks? Among the clans of Reuben there was deep searching of heart.
Gilead stayed beyond the Jordan. And Dan — why did he linger by the ships? Asher sat still on the seacoast and remained in his harbors.
The river Kishon swept them away, that ancient river, the river Kishon. March on, my soul, in strength!
"Curse Meroz," said the angel of the LORD, "bitterly curse its people, because they did not come to help the LORD, to help the LORD against the mighty."
He asked for water; she gave him milk. In a bowl fit for a prince she brought him curds.
Her hand reached for the tent peg, her right hand for the workman's hammer. She struck Sisera, she crushed his head; she shattered and pierced his temple.
At her feet he sank, he fell, he lay still. At her feet he sank, he fell; where he sank, there he fell — dead.
Through the window Sisera's mother looked out; behind the lattice she wailed: "Why is his chariot so long in coming? Why is the clatter of his chariots delayed?"
"Surely they are finding and dividing the spoil — a girl or two for every man, dyed cloth as spoil for Sisera, dyed cloth richly embroidered, two embroidered pieces for the neck of the plunderer."
So may all your enemies perish, O LORD! But may those who love you be like the sun when it rises in its strength. And the land had rest for forty years.
