A psalm of David. For remembrance.
LORD, do not rebuke me in your anger, or discipline me in your wrath.
For your arrows have pierced me, and your hand has come down hard on me.
There is no soundness in my flesh because of your indignation; there is no peace in my bones because of my sin.
My guilt has risen over my head; like a heavy burden it weighs me down.
My wounds are foul and festering because of my foolishness.
I am bent over and utterly crushed; all day long I walk about in mourning.
For my inmost parts are filled with burning, and there is no soundness in my flesh.
I am worn out and completely broken; I groan from the anguish of my heart.
Lord, all my longing lies open before you; my sighing is not hidden from you.
My heart pounds, my strength fails me, and even the light of my eyes is gone.
My friends and companions keep their distance from my affliction; my relatives stand far off.
Those who want my life set their traps; those who seek my ruin speak of destruction, and all day long they plot deceit.
But I am like a deaf man who does not hear, like a mute who does not open his mouth.
I have become like a man who hears nothing, whose mouth offers no reply.
For in you, LORD, I have put my hope; you will answer, Lord my God.
For I said, "Do not let them gloat over me"—for when my foot slips, they boast against me.
For I am ready to fall, and my pain is always with me.
So I confess my guilt; I am troubled by my sin.
My enemies are vigorous and strong; many hate me without cause.
They repay my good with evil; they oppose me for pursuing what is good.
Do not abandon me, LORD; my God, do not be far from me.
Come quickly to help me, my Lord, my salvation.
