Show the psalm's promises16 promises of God's protection

Psalm 91 is one of the most comforting psalms about God's protection. It was quoted by Satan when he tempted Jesus (Matt 4:6), but it is really about trusting in God through all the dangers of life.

In the shelter of the Most High

Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.

v.1

My refuge and my fortress

I say of the LORD: He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.

v.2

Delivered from the fowler's snare

Surely he will deliver you from the fowler's snare and from the deadly plague.

v.3

Under his wings

He will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is your shield and rampart.

v.4

Do not fear the terrors of the night

You will not fear the terror of the night, nor the arrow that flies by day,

v.5

A thousand fall at your side

A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you.

v.7

No disaster shall befall you

no disaster will overtake you, no plague will come near your tent.

His angels will guard you

For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways.

Carried on their hands

They will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.

Tread upon the lion and the serpent

You will tread on the lion and the cobra; you will trample the young lion and the serpent.

God's own promises (vv. 14-16)

"Because he clings to me in love, I will rescue him; I will lift him high, for he knows my name.

I will answer when he calls

He will call on me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him.

Satisfied with a long life

With long life I will satisfy him, and I will show him my salvation."
