13Then little children were brought to him for him to place his hands on them and pray. But the disciples rebuked those who brought them.

14Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these."

34who will mock him and spit on him and flog him and kill him; and after three days he will rise."

17"Why do you ask me about what is good?" Jesus replied. "There is only one who is good. But if you want to enter life, keep the commandments."

18"Which ones?" the man asked. Jesus answered, "Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not give false testimony,

19honor your father and mother, and love your neighbor as yourself."

20"I have kept all these," the young man said. "What do I still lack?"

21Jesus said to him, "If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me."

22When the young man heard this, he went away grieving, for he had great wealth.

23Then Jesus said to his disciples, "Truly I tell you, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven.

24Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God."

25When the disciples heard this, they were utterly astonished and asked, "Who then can be saved?"

26Jesus looked at them and said, "With people this is impossible, but with God all things are possible."

27Then Peter said to him, "Look, we have left everything and followed you. What then will there be for us?"

28Jesus said to them, "Truly I tell you, at the renewal of all things, when the Son of Man sits on his throne of glory, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

29And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or fields for my name's sake will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life.

30But many who are first will be last, and many who are last will be first.

18Jesus said to him, "Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone.

19You know the commandments: 'Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not bear false witness, do not defraud, honor your father and mother.'"

20"Teacher," he said, "I have kept all these since I was a boy."

21Jesus looked at him and loved him, and he said, "One thing you lack. Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me."

22At these words his face fell, and he went away grieving, for he had many possessions.

23Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, "How hard it will be for those who have wealth to enter the kingdom of God!"

24The disciples were astounded at his words. But Jesus said to them again, "Children, how hard it is to enter the kingdom of God!

25It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God."

26They were even more astonished and said to one another, "Then who can be saved?"

27Jesus looked at them and said, "With human beings it is impossible, but not with God; for all things are possible with God."

28Peter began to say to him, "Look, we have left everything and followed you."

29Jesus said, "Truly I tell you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for my sake and for the sake of the gospel

24Jesus looked at him and said, "How hard it is for those who have wealth to enter the kingdom of God!

25Indeed, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God."

26Those who heard it said, "Then who can be saved?"

27He replied, "What is impossible for human beings is possible for God."

28Peter said, "Look, we have left what was ours and followed you."

29And Jesus said to them, "Truly I tell you, there is no one who has left house or wife or brothers or parents or children for the sake of the kingdom of God

30who will not receive many times as much in this present age, and in the age to come, eternal life."

Then he left that place and went into the region of Judea and beyond the Jordan. Crowds gathered around him again, and again, as was his custom, he taught them.
Some Pharisees came up and, to test him, asked whether it was lawful for a man to divorce his wife.[^1] [^1]: Some manuscripts do not name the questioners here, reading simply "They asked him."
He answered them, "What did Moses command you?"
They said, "Moses permitted a man to write a certificate of divorce and send her away."
Jesus said to them, "He wrote you that commandment because of your hardness of heart.
But from the beginning of creation, 'God made them male and female.'
'For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife,
and the two will become one flesh.' So they are no longer two, but one flesh.
Back in the house, the disciples asked him about this again.
He said to them, "Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery against her,
and if she divorces her husband and marries another, she commits adultery."

James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came to him and said, "Teacher, we want you to do for us whatever we ask."
"What do you want me to do for you?" he asked.
They said to him, "Grant that in your glory we may sit, one at your right hand and one at your left."
Jesus said to them, "You do not know what you are asking. Can you drink the cup that I drink, or be baptized with the baptism I am baptized with?"
"We can," they answered. Jesus said to them, "The cup that I drink you will drink, and with the baptism I am baptized with you will be baptized;
but to sit at my right hand or at my left is not mine to grant. It belongs to those for whom it has been prepared."
When the ten heard this, they became angry with James and John.
So Jesus called them together and said, "You know that those regarded as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them.
It must not be like that among you. Instead, whoever wants to be great among you must be your servant,
and whoever wants to be first among you must be slave of all.
For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."
Then they came to Jericho. As he was leaving Jericho with his disciples and a large crowd, Bartimaeus son of Timaeus, a blind beggar, was sitting by the roadside.
When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout, "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!"
Many rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the louder, "Son of David, have mercy on me!"
Jesus stopped and said, "Call him." So they called the blind man, saying, "Take heart! Get up; he is calling you."
Throwing off his cloak, he jumped up and came to Jesus.
"What do you want me to do for you?" Jesus asked him. The blind man said, "Rabbouni, I want to see again."
"Go," Jesus said to him, "your faith has healed you." Immediately he received his sight and followed him on the road.
