There is really no need for me to write to you about this service for the saints,

for I know how eager you are. I keep boasting about you to the Macedonians, telling them that Achaia has been ready since last year, and your zeal has stirred up most of them.

Still, I am sending the brothers so that our boasting about you may not prove empty in this matter, so that you may be ready, just as I said you would be.

Otherwise, if some Macedonians come with me and find you unprepared, we would be put to shame for having been so confident—and so would you.

So I thought it necessary to urge the brothers to go on ahead to you and arrange in advance the generous gift you had promised, so that it may be ready as a willing gift and not as something squeezed out of you.

Remember this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.

Each one should give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

And God is able to make every grace overflow to you, so that in all things at all times, having all you need, you may overflow in every good work.

As it is written: "He has scattered abroad, he has given to the poor; his righteousness endures forever."

And he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed and increase the harvest of your righteousness.

You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will overflow in thanksgiving to God.

For this service you render not only supplies the needs of the saints but also overflows in many expressions of thanks to God.

Through the proof this ministry gives, they will glorify God for the obedience that goes with your confession of the gospel of Christ, and for the generosity of your sharing with them and with everyone else,

while they pray for you and long for you because of the surpassing grace of God upon you.

Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!
