The LORD said to Moses, "One more plague I will bring upon Pharaoh and upon Egypt. After that he will let you go from here; indeed, when he lets you go, he will drive you out of here completely."

"Speak now in the hearing of the people: let every man ask his neighbor, and every woman her neighbor, for articles of silver and articles of gold."

And the LORD gave the people favor in the eyes of the Egyptians. Moreover, the man Moses was very great in the land of Egypt, in the eyes of Pharaoh's servants and in the eyes of the people.

So Moses said, "Thus says the LORD: About midnight I will go out through the midst of Egypt,

and every firstborn in the land of Egypt shall die, from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sits on his throne to the firstborn of the slave girl who is behind the millstones, and every firstborn of the livestock.

Then there will be a great cry throughout all the land of Egypt, such as has never been and never will be again.

But among all the Israelites not even a dog shall growl, neither at man nor beast, so that you may know that the LORD makes a distinction between Egypt and Israel.

And all these servants of yours will come down to me and bow before me, saying, 'Get out, you and all the people who follow you!' After that I will go out." And he went out from Pharaoh in burning anger.

The LORD had said to Moses, "Pharaoh will not listen to you, so that my wonders may be multiplied in the land of Egypt."

Moses and Aaron performed all these wonders before Pharaoh, but the LORD hardened Pharaoh's heart, and he would not let the Israelites go out of his land.
