He said to me, "Son of man, eat what you find here. Eat this scroll, then go and speak to the house of Israel."

So I opened my mouth, and he fed me the scroll.

He said to me, "Son of man, feed your stomach and fill your belly with this scroll that I am giving you." So I ate it, and in my mouth it was as sweet as honey.

Then he said to me, "Son of man, go now to the house of Israel and speak my words to them.

You are not being sent to a people of obscure speech and difficult language, but to the house of Israel—

not to many peoples of obscure speech and difficult language, whose words you cannot understand. Had I sent you to them, they would have listened to you.

But the house of Israel will not be willing to listen to you, for they are not willing to listen to me. The whole house of Israel is hard-browed and stubborn-hearted.

See, I have made your face as hard as their faces, and your brow as hard as their brow.

I have made your brow like a diamond, harder than flint. Do not fear them or be dismayed before them, for they are a rebellious house.

And he said to me, "Son of man, take into your heart every word I speak to you, and listen with your ears.

Go now to the exiles, to your own people, and speak to them. Say to them, 'This is what the Lord GOD says'—whether they listen or refuse."

Then the Spirit lifted me up, and I heard behind me a great rumbling sound: "Blessed be the glory of the LORD from his place!"

It was the sound of the wings of the living creatures brushing against one another, and the sound of the wheels beside them—a great rumbling sound.

The Spirit lifted me up and took me away, and I went in bitterness and in the heat of my spirit, with the hand of the LORD strong upon me.

I came to the exiles at Tel Abib, who lived by the Kebar River. There, where they were living, I sat among them for seven days, overwhelmed.

At the end of the seven days the word of the LORD came to me:

"Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel. Whenever you hear a word from my mouth, you must warn them for me.

If I say to the wicked, 'You will surely die,' and you do not warn him or speak to warn the wicked man away from his wicked way so that he may live, that wicked man will die in his guilt, but I will hold you accountable for his blood.

But if you do warn the wicked man and he does not turn from his wickedness or from his wicked way, he will die in his guilt, but you will have saved your life.

And if a righteous man turns from his righteousness and does wrong, and I place a stumbling block before him, he will die. Because you did not warn him, he will die in his sin, and the righteous deeds he did will not be remembered—and I will hold you accountable for his blood.

But if you warn the righteous man not to sin, and he does not sin, he will surely live because he took the warning, and you will have saved your life."

The hand of the LORD was upon me there, and he said to me, "Get up, go out to the valley, and there I will speak with you."

So I got up and went out to the valley, and there stood the glory of the LORD, like the glory I had seen by the Kebar River; and I fell facedown.

Then the Spirit entered me and set me on my feet. He spoke with me and said, "Go, shut yourself inside your house.

As for you, son of man, they will put ropes on you and bind you with them, so that you cannot go out among them.

I will make your tongue stick to the roof of your mouth so that you will be silent and unable to rebuke them, for they are a rebellious house.

But when I speak with you, I will open your mouth, and you will say to them, 'This is what the Lord GOD says.' Whoever will listen, let him listen; whoever refuses, let him refuse—for they are a rebellious house."
