PsalmsChapter 106

Hallelujah! Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his mercy endures forever.
Who can recount the mighty deeds of the LORD, or make all his praise be heard?
Blessed are those who keep justice, who do what is right at all times.
Remember me, LORD, when you show favor to your people; come to me with your salvation,
that I may see the prosperity of your chosen ones, rejoice in the joy of your nation, and glory with your inheritance.
We have sinned, as our fathers did; we have done wrong, we have acted wickedly.
Our fathers in Egypt gave no thought to your wonders; they did not remember your abundant mercies, but rebelled at the sea, the Red Sea.
Yet he saved them for his name's sake, to make his power known.
He rebuked the Red Sea, and it dried up; he led them through the depths as through a desert.
He saved them from the hand of the one who hated them and redeemed them from the hand of the enemy.
The waters covered their foes; not one of them survived.
Then they believed his words and sang his praise.
But they soon forgot what he had done and would not wait for his counsel.
In the wilderness they gave in to craving; in the wasteland they put God to the test.
So he gave them what they asked, but sent a wasting disease into their very souls.
In the camp they grew jealous of Moses and of Aaron, the holy one of the LORD.
The earth opened and swallowed Dathan; it closed over the company of Abiram.
Fire blazed among their company; flames consumed the wicked.
At Horeb they made a calf and bowed down to a molten image.
They exchanged their glory for the image of an ox that eats grass.
They forgot God their Savior, who had done great things in Egypt,
wonders in the land of Ham, awesome deeds by the Red Sea.
So he said he would destroy them—had not Moses, his chosen one, stood before him in the breach to turn away his wrath from destroying them.
Then they despised the pleasant land; they did not believe his promise.
They grumbled in their tents and did not listen to the voice of the LORD.
So he raised his hand against them, swearing to make them fall in the wilderness,
to make their offspring fall among the nations and scatter them through the lands.
They yoked themselves to Baal of Peor and ate sacrifices offered to the dead.
They provoked him with their deeds, and a plague broke out among them.
Then Phinehas stood up and intervened, and the plague was stopped.
And this was credited to him as righteousness through all generations, forever.
At the waters of Meribah they angered him, and it went badly for Moses because of them,
for they embittered his spirit, and he spoke rashly with his lips.
They did not destroy the peoples as the LORD had commanded them,
but mingled with the nations and learned their ways.
They served their idols, and these became a snare to them.
They sacrificed their sons and their daughters to demons.
They shed innocent blood, the blood of their sons and daughters, whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan, and the land was polluted with the blood they shed.
They made themselves unclean by their deeds and prostituted themselves by their actions.
So the LORD's anger burned against his people, and he abhorred his own inheritance.
He handed them over to the nations, and those who hated them ruled over them.
Their enemies oppressed them, and they were subdued under their hand.
Many times he delivered them, but they rebelled in their own designs and sank low in their guilt.
Yet he looked upon their distress when he heard their cry.
For their sake he remembered his covenant and relented according to the greatness of his mercy.
He made all who held them captive show them compassion.
Save us, LORD our God, and gather us from among the nations, that we may give thanks to your holy name and glory in your praise.
Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. And let all the people say, "Amen!" Hallelujah!
